Again, this is the result of a structural problem: that Nebraska, as a state, has outsized influence solely as the result of being a state (Which doesn't necessarily mean that much once you look back into how some of these small Western states were created).

But the Senate, unfortunately, will never be abolished, so either the two parties must learn to work together, which means that the activists and media on both sides depolarize (unlikely), or the filibuster must be abolished.

How about we don't march towards tyranny and elect less corrupt people and hold them accountable. How about we actually use the Constitution in our defense.

You're stupid. Really, you're stupid. How about we just hold hands around the world and sing kumbaya? How about we just sent bin Laden a big ice cream sundae to convince him to renounce his ways?

It always shocks me how Americans never seem to understand that our problems are structural. They say "elect better people" and then they take politicians at their word at the first opportunity-- especially non incumbents. They say "hold then accountable" and then they only turn them out of office if things are "going bad" and not if they are corrupt.

You're not going to get better people under the current system. Even genuinely good, well intentioned people (and I think there are a lot more than people realize), when you throw them into the current system, it will chew them up, and spit them out into something unrecognizable. How many years, how many decades, how many Congresses, does it take until people understand this?

What's needed is (1) a Constitutional amendment guaranteeing public financing of elections for all federal offices (2) a prohibition on individual and PAC campaign contributions above $250, price level adjusted (3) prohibition on members of Congress or high level public servants from ever again serving in the industry that they regulated, or in the case of Congress from ever again serving as a lobbyist for anything, once out of office (4) abolition of the filister.

And that's just the beginning. They will try to find ways around the 4 rules above, and when they do, new rules must be put in place to squash those work-arounds. And the penalties for violation must be severe.

Structural problems can be fixed with the right people. Calling people names does not fix the structure. You must be stupid.

Of course, your regulations are a joke. Tyranny, here we come!!!

If people aren't aware, Kirk is recently divorced to undisclosed reasons.

No, it isn't. Have anything of value to contribute, for a change?

If you don't think Beet contributes much to Atlas, you have a crippling reading comprehension problem. He's one of the best and most knowledgeable posters around.

Hmm, I aced critical reading on the SAT. Did you?

Here is how each individual 2010 US Senate Race is going to pan out:

I feel like next he'll be proclaiming that the Almighty has informed him about the following races...

this thread is the place to attack other posters for their alleged hilarity, not  to defend anyone no matter what the situation may be

I don't engage in personal attacks any more so than any other member. And certainly far less often than fezzyfestoon.

Weird.  I must be phantom posting again.

You attacked me for no reason.

To be fair, he wouldn't have attacked you like that if you weren't so hideously ugly.

It worries me that a straight guy recognized a straight guy's reference to a fairly obscure element of gay sub-culture.  Undecided

You think UC Berkeley didn't have constant holes being drilled into our bathroom walls on campus with pictures being drawn in sharpies to illustrate what they were for?

Sometimes I'd have to wait 5 minutes for a stall to open up because the ones that were available had glory holes cut into them and I didn't want the guy next to me to watch me pee.  Campus maintenance would cover them up with obviously out-of-place steel plates but the die hards apparently kept tearing them down.

This Massa ad from 2006 is kind of hilarious but also creepy and gross in retrospect.

Thanks Lief, I'd be laughing louder if it wasn't 2am  and I'd wake some punk

This is done, what's the next legislative item?

Stem cell research funding for grizzly bears.

This would be funny if not for all for the grizzly bears who are dying every day of curable diseases that COULD BE CURED BY STEM CELL RESEARCH

okay, it's 4am, I'll go now.

Just in 100-200 homes, but the rest of the state still has to get to the late 1980s culturally

Not even remotely close to true, even in the rural areas.

I was gonna say. Surely, it's 50-100 and the 1960s.

Every time I post a message, my browser returns a blank screen.  Does anyone else have this problem?  Any suggestions as to fixing it?

I'm having the same problem.

Ah, good, then we've confirmed it's working.
