Are they, in their occupation, refusing to allow admission to federal employees who have the building as their workplace? What does the occupation of this building mean? If they're just sitting around there but letting people go about their business, that's one thing. But if they're refusing entry to a federal building to the federal workers who work there, that's entirely another thing, and not just a peaceful protest, whether or not violence has been used.

Does anyone know whether anyone was actually arrested for aiming sniper rifles at federal officers last time?

Far as I know, they absolutely weren't. Because they were just patriots.

So what does that mean? That if you're in a remote enough area you should be able to disregard whatever laws you feel like because you're not in an urban center?

It doesn't matter that these guys have weapons, they have claimed and are holding territory, and have threatened violence if the owners of that territory try to claim it?

Apparently law enforcement isn't stopping these guys from coming and going as they please. That kind of baffles me.

Maybe if they're playing eleventh dimensional chess, they're attempting to make it more difficult for these guys to claim that they were under any hardship whatsoever.

No, but let's not be naive and pretend that location doesn't affect how serious a crime is. It's illegal to fire a handgun for the most part in Canada, but obviously there's a huge difference between doing so in the middle of the woods vs downtown, even if you're just firing straight up in the air.

I certainly don't disagree with the example you gave, but I don't think it's particularly analogous to what's going on here.

It'd be more appropriate to call them thieves rather than terrorists.  Certainly that's what they are advocating, the theft of public lands for their own private purposes.

Though they're clearly pursuing a larger political agenda with the theft.

Only because its necessary for their theft to take place.  If they could steal the land they wanted without dabbling in politics, I doubt they'd bother.

I don't think that's true at all. There's nothing to indicate that these guys would prefer not to be spouting their ideology into cameras.

Just let them go. Don't give them any ammunition to say that the federal government has imposed any hardship on them whatsoever. Make them look like cowardly fools who can't even properly outfit themselves for a siege, but need the government to magnanimously let them go out for snacks to re-equip. If this were more pressing or in a more populated area or something I might think otherwise, but it's probably the right move to not play at all into their dreams of martyrdom and persecution.
