He literally got an email saying something to the effect of: If you meet with me, I'll give you some damaging Clinton information that came from the Russian government, because they want your dad to win. And he went to the meeting.

I think there's an idea out there that malicious people are very smart, which may stem from TV shows and movies. In reality, malicious people are often incompetent, careless, and dumb.

Also, as Vox has noted, 52 USC 30121, 36 USC 510 indicates Trump Jr. already broke the law if the email does indeed show that he knew this was coming from Russia.

"A foreign national shall not, directly or indirectly, make a contribution or a donation of money or other thing of value, or expressly or impliedly promise to make a contribution or a donation, in connection with any Federal, State, or local election."

“No person shall knowingly solicit, accept, or receive from a foreign national any contribution or donation prohibited by [this law].”

I just don't understand why people like EnglishPete are trying to "win" the discussion here. There is no winning to be had, and nothing you post here will have any impact on anything that happens. It'd be nice if we could have threads that don't get derailed from legitimate discussion about new developments in stories like these, but apparently we can't have that.
