Why? He'd be very old for a first-term Senator. I'm just not sure why a former Governor/business leader/presidential candidate wants to spend his retirement as a Senate back-bencher rather than enjoying his reputation as an elder statesmen and spending time with family.

Why NOT spend a chunk of your twilight years hanging out in a high profile in a job you wanted 24 years ago, retire at 83, and then (let's be honest here) have one of your sons be your successor.
