Dan Rather: It is now a little over 5 AM. In the state of Massachusetts, CBS is ready to project a political earthquake that would make San Francisco blush. In the state's Senate election, by what appears to be by a little over 1,300 votes, the liberal lion of the Senate, Edward Moore Kennedy, has been slain by a young businessman named Willard Mitt Romney. This, to put it lightly, is huge. Who knows how this will shape up the dynamic of the Senate for the next Congress? We now go to Mr. Romney, who is giving his victory speech.
Mitt Romney: Thank you Massachusetts! The people of this grand Commonwealth have spoken, and they said, "out with the old and in with the new!" I look very much forward to serving you, the people, in the United States Senate. Not corporations, not lobbyists, the people! I will be morally accountable, and will always put you, not my own political prospects, first!
Ted Kennedy: Thank you, thank you! This was not what any of us expected, but in the end, the people of Massachusetts spoke, and they wanted Mitt Romney to serve them more than me!
Crowd: BOOOO!!!!!
No, none of that! We may be losers right now, but we will not be sore losers! I wish Mr. Romney well as he prepares to traverse the rough waters of the Senate!
