What happens to the Duke of Edinburgh title? Is it left vacant?

I assume that his greatest legacy, giving city kids the opportunity to run away from cows as if they are raging bulls and then make awkward and fumbling passes at each other at in tents will remain intact.

Suddenly remembered that scandal where Tony Abbott knighted Phillip. I wonder what the Duke made of that affair? Presumably he laughed, like I assume all the royals do at obsequious fools like that.
