Sanders sounds kind of stupid here, I'm disappointed in him. It smells like senseless pandering, and he should be above that.

pandering?? Who would've thunk it? Pandering of course isn't an inherently bad thing (nobody on Atlas has complained at Sanders' entire campaign being targeted squarely at White young college students, because nobody accepts that
they are being pandered to).
