California is a blue state, hasn't elected a Republican governor since 2006.

However rising star Gov. Gavin Newsom has problems with the virus, economic decline, etc.

Former SF Giants player Aubrey Huff is considering a run: more celebrities will run for office now anyway.....

Former San Diego mayor Kevin Faulconer may be too moderate for the GOP base.

Hockey legend Wayne Gretzky could run, but probably does not want to tarnish his squeaky-clean image.

For the Democrats, some celebrity could challenge Newsom on the left, especially on homelessness. Danny Glover should consider it.

This might be a troll, but venture capitalist Chamath Palihapitiya has thrown his hat into the ring if Newsom is recalled

https://twitter.com/chamath/status/1354104976457355265

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chamath_Palihapitiya

Color me skeptical if someone promises giant tax cuts and wants to raise teacher salaries. Where's the money supposed to come from? Radical cuts in social services? Deficit spending? That's straight out of the same voodoo economics playbook.

Too bad Jerry Brown is so old and term-limited. I wish he could come back.

Brown is old, he had his time. He should have ran for president in 2016 or 2020---he'd be good for these times.

Faulconer is probably too moderate for CAGOP....that's a travesty...

A Republican is going to have to replicate Arnold's 2003/2006 strategy or even Poizner's 2006 strategy....it will be a stretch.....

Orange County is the key....does the moderate OC Dems behind the Orange Curtain vote for a CAGOPer??

House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy and Devin Nunes are from CA....so you will see $$$$$ poured here like crazy.

CA Republicans that can run:

Vince Fong
Kevin Faulconer
One of the OC Housewives
Aubrey Huff
Jose Canseco

Newsom will win a second term, but it will be by 10-15 points.

And yes, CA will elect another Republican governor one day.

Caitlyn Jenner might as well be Meghan McCain-someone who appeals to absolutely no one and seems to find a way to piss off every possible type of political demographic. I don't know if she knows this, and actually thinks she can win, but if so then it truly is entirely a vanity campaign. If we're lucky she'll be a footnote in this possible election like Kanye West was in 2020, in spite of their celebrity...and relationship to Kim Kardashian.

Is our politics just going become Six Degrees of Kardashian at this point? Trump even factors into that!

Why doesn't Jenner appeal to anyone? Explain. She was an U.S. Olympian....

Jenner is a joke.

She gives herself a bad name.

Newsom will win the recall in October, he will win reelection in 2022 and that's that of his political career.

He is not going to be president, never.

Talk show host Wendy Williams calls California's economy a "joke", calls Newsom a joke and endorses Steve Lodge for governor.

Lodge is a conservative man who is the fiance of Wendy's friend, former reality TV star Vicki Gunvalson of Orange County

Why is Wendy Williams friends with known grifter and scammer Vicki Gunvalson (she ran a cancer scam with one of her old boyfriends that became a huge deal on and off the show)? Gunvalson's "fiance" (many think is was just for show when she was on the Real Housewives of Orange Country t have a storyline) fraudulently tried to run for city council in Anaheim by claiming he lived in the city when in fact he didn't. He also tried to claim he was Hispanic, which also isn't true.

CA recently reported a 75 billion dollar budget surplus. Yeah, Wendy, the CA economy is a "joke". Maybe she doesn't like CA. Guess you can't expect too much from trash like her.

So Lodge is a fraud, I guess? Lodge is a former police officer and US military member.....

Vicki is a scammer too? Oh boy....She's not the only housewife on that franchise to be involved in shady business deals....

I have no idea who these people are.

Why does every minor "celebrity" feel the need to run for Governor of California?

Because only celebrities can save the CAGOP. Wayne Gretzky should have ran as well. Celebrities can excite people to vote. Although there are a lot of people who don't like when celebrities endorse politicians, people don't follow politics, so the famous people have to run so people can know what is going on

I actually feel really bad for her. Her politics are horsesh*t, but no one deserves to be treated badly for being transgender. I just wish that she, along with every other LGBTQ+ conservative, would realize that the Republican Party is not their ally.

Not every LGBTQ person is a Democrat, a lot of them are tough on crime, antitax, etc. She should have ran as an Independent.

Look at Dave Rubin, he is gay and he is popular with today's conservative base.....

Still Safe D

The only CA Republican who could have won is actors Patricia Heaton, John Hurley and Wayne Gretzky. Add Tom Selleck on there as well. They could have won because they are noncontroversial conservatives and they could have appealed to Latino voters and take back Orange County, plus appeal to blue collar Democrats.

Still Safe D.

CAGOP needs a complete makeover, and McCarthy and Nunes being the face of the party doesn't help, they need to make inroads into LA and SF...

Elder is too far right, he gives Black conservatives a bad name....

Uncle Tom will be plastered to his name for a long, long time...

Newsom will prevail, but his political future is over at the same time. He will never be president. NEVER.

Even before COVID, he was never gonna be president. NEVER.

Why? He's too slick? I always saw him as someone who was positioning to be the new Bill Clinton/Tony Blair....slick, affable, and charming, but for some reasons it never aligned....

Hopefully once this is over the California legislature will significantly raise the number of signatures to get recall elections on the ballot. Here in Michigan you have to get 25% of the total number of votes cast in the last election of you want to recall the governor. If Newsom survives then everyone who signed the recall petition should be mailed a bill for their share of the costs to hold the election.

You don't believe that people shouldn't voice dissent with their elected officials in the middle of their terms?

You can criticize the CAGOP for not winning an election since 1994, or for Prop 187.......but Davis and Newsom made a lot of errors.....being California governor is very HARD and Jerry Brown was probably the best out of all of them over the past 30 years......

Larry Elder is the best thing that could've ever happened to the Newsom campaign.

This.

He also gives Black Republicans a bad name, by saying stupid stuff like slavery wasn't bad and so on....

What percentage of the Black male vote does Larry Elder get? 10% 15? I don't see Black men being excited over a slick white guy like Gavin Newsom....

I also don't see them getting excited over someone who says slave owners deserve reperations.

True.....I think in 2022, Newsom should pick a Black running mate....

Chalian on CNN said that Latino men and Democrats are in a bind....

A lot of Latino men trend Republican. Some people say that they are anti-Black.

A lot of them are in the military and police, so they may be too "macho" and antiblack......
