The issue isn't that Huckabee has support in Iowa, but that Huckabee is supporting one particular GOP candidate for governor, which could alienate supporters of other candidates, and limit Huck's support there in 2012.  Granted, sometimes these things pay off.  McCain's endorsement of Crist in the 2006 GOP FL gubernatorial primary looks pretty shrewd in retrospect.
