If it's not Clinton in 2008, then I think we might see a female VP before a female president. I think we'll start seeing more female running mates pretty soon. (And of course, once you're selected for VP, you'll likely end up running for president down the line.) The Dems have built up a deep bench of female governors and senators who might be potential VPs. The GOP doesn't have as deep a bench in that regard (there are fewer of them, and many, like Collins and Snowe, are so moderate that they'd cause rioting at the convention if named to the ticket), but they'll probably catch up to where the Dems are now within a decade or so.
