It'd be nice if people shared links that were not beyond a paywall. I can't afford to pay a monthly fee to read whatever regurgitated gossip the media gets from Twitter.

You don't need to pay anything.  It's the WSJ.  All you need to do is Google the headline (in this case "Mitt Romney Leads Donald Trump’s Picks for Secretary of State") and you get a version that you can read for free.

Then it'd be nice to link to that instead of that version.

For whatever reason, that trick doesn't work unless you click the link directly off of Google.  The best I can do is say to go here:

Google search link

and then click the link at the top of that page.

Yesterday, Buzzfeed said that the short list for Secretary of Education was down to two names: Michelle Rhee and Betsy DeVos:

https://www.buzzfeed.com/mollyhensleyclancy/trumps-two-choices-for-education-secretary

Today, Rhee took herself out of the running:

wth.....why would haley agree to that? (and i think that takes her out from presidential runs for 1 or 2 cycles) she is easily the biggest patriot in that administration.

She was already out for 2020, since she isn't going to primary Trump, but I don't see how this impacts her chances of running in 2024 one way or ther other.

i absolutely could be wrong on that, since my knowledge about the US is still limited, but is there some kind of precedent for someone getting appointed to a - kind of -  international non-partisan top job and them comes back to run for higher office?

Yes, absolutely:

thanks, morden, i should have more specifically asked for a successful bid of such a candidate (i guess accepting the ambassadorship from obama even harmed his candidacy) but i agree now that it would be possible.

It may have, but Obama was of course of the opposite party, while Trump is the same party as Haley.

This is just getting weird.  Kellyane Conway went on “This Week” this morning and lashed out at Mitt Romney:

So is Romney still in consideration or not?  Because for a normal political operation, it would be very weird for a top advisor like Conway to go on one of the Sunday shows and publicly attack someone who the president might appoint to a top job, saying that she’s “personally” opposed to it.  If you’re a top political advisor, you normally offer the party line, not your personal opinion on what the boss should do.

But Trump doesn’t have a “normal” political operation, so I don’t know what to think.

I'm still thinking that Giuliani is the most likely Secretary of State pick, but I wouldn't rule out a dark horse pick like Rohrabacher.

Followup on the General Kelly thing:

http://www.washingtontimes.com/news/2016/nov/27/john-kelly-trump-cabinet-mention-a-border-security/

Looks like he's not just in the running for Secretary of State, but maybe also in the running for Secretary of Homeland Security?
