what is it, just goes from a dim grey to a dark and back again?  Ithaca was similar, it wore on me after a while.  (not just that, but the cold, wind, ice, and the fact that Ithaca is basically built on the slope of a mountain - not a great place for human habitation)

that's one thing that struck me in Ithaca, after spending my whole life in greater NYC area.  not that Ithaca is the Mecca for lack of light pollution, the night sky is much more exquisite.  makes you realize how 100 yr old Abraham felt during his fateful talk w/the Lord.
