The political fallout of this will be fascinating

Don’t worry MSNBC will switch their outrage once DeSantis signs another bill
Grow up.

Well I think we should note that what this decision, and future insane ultra-reactionary decisions from this court, will mean that basically we will continue to divide into two different communities. Obviously Democratic-run localities will ignore their state legislatures on this best they can (good), and Democratic and Republican run states will have drastically different laws going forward.
This decision essentially makes abortion a state's rights issue so it isn't really possible for state legislatures to ignore it

People think the Dems can hold the Senate.... (new here?)

Better chance of Manchin passing a federal abortion protections bill in the lame duck.

No chance because no one will break the fillibuster

Regardless Manchin is Anti-Choice. Collins and Murkowski might vote for it but not to break the fillibuster

Manchin is whatever his backers need him to be.

I would not be shocked if Manchin turned out to have quasi-moderate-hero personal stances on abortion, deep down. Though it's unlikely we'll ever know.
I would be very shocked if Manchin has personal stances, period

This is a 30 page thread where maybe 5% of the posts actually reference the issue at hand.

The justices of the supreme court were tasked not with giving their opinion on abortion, not with trying one way or another with influence abortion policy in this country.

They were tasked with answering one question: does the united states constitution as it is currently written provide for a right to an abortion?

5 justices said no, the constitution does no such thing.

For what its worth, there is *NOT* an insignificant number of left wing legal scholars who are staunchly pro choice who at the same time believe roe was incorrectly decided. Laurence tribe up until a few years ago fell into this camp.

I hate when things happen and people discuss the implication of those things happening. Every reply to every news story should just be summarizing what the news story says

God he's such a creep

Not sure why he cares about abortion, any woman old enough to get pregnant would be way too old for him
