This almost sounds similar to Ed Koch's statement prior to the 1988 New York primary where he effectively sank what faint hopes Al Gore had of shedding the "Southern candidate" label he created by focusing so heavily on Super Tuesday a month earlier by saying any Jewish person would have been crazy to vote for Jesse Jackson in that primary (citing Jackson having been supported by Louis Farrakhan in 1984 and Jackson's own use of a certain slur with relation to New York City having had a large Jewish population).
