Democrats shouldn't be surprised by how easily some Republicans like Collins, Murkowski, and McCain have come on board after everything that happened with Trumpcare. There are some issues that will create some overlap in the interests and decisions of them and Democrats, but do not be mistaken. They are not Democrats. They will not do the things that Democrats want just because they did that thing that time that you agreed with. They are Republicans, and their interests are more closely aligned with those of the Republican Party.

While true that they are republicans and nothing unifies republicans more than tax cuts, it is also true that both susan collins and John McCain voted against the Bush tax cuts.

It's still unclear if the Senate Final Passage Vote will be late tomorrow or Friday, but per HuffPo, Ryan is reportedly telling House Members to be prepared to take a procedural vote to create the conference committee at some point on Friday. Could be a sign that Republicans are confident they have the votes in the Senate.

If the GOP has votes in the senate, I am intrigued at which 2 they will let vote "no" for optic purposes.

Probably not

Obamacare passing didn't give Obama a boost

Bush tax cuts didn't improve his ratings

It may give him a boost next April when the median household finds out they are indeed getting a tax cut

I still have yet to see evidence that the average middle class family is going to see a tax increase out of this

Try even Googling "Trump Tax Plan Middle Class".
Literally any reputable link will explain how this thing is a joke.

marty's taxes could go up 100% and marty would still say it's cutting his taxes.

The CBO, the tax foundation, and the tax policy center ALL find the bill raises after tax income for ALL income groups

There are legit reasons to oppose this bill, but you don't have to lie and say it raises taxes on the middle class

1 trillion over ten years really isn't all that scary

You guys support a healthcare system that will cost 32 trillion over ten years

I'll believe Corker and Flake have a pair when I see it.

What makes you guys so opposed to this but you supported bush and Reagan tax cuts?

DYNAMIC SCORE RELEASED: Even assuming large amounts of economic growth, bill still raises deficit by $1,006,700,000,000.  https://www.jct.gov/publications.html?func=download&id=5045&chk=5045&no_html=1

This is the plan. Dramatically lower taxes on high-income earners to soothe the doners. This raises the deficit.
Then, exclaim that the debt and deficit are unsustainable and we therefore require massive cuts to social spending.

Uhhhh, our entitlements are already unsustainable

Stabenow is a good looking woman for her age

If I were an old man I would take her to bed if she were my mate

@sahilkapur
CORNYN: “It doesn’t look like the trigger is going to work, according to the parliamentarian. So we have an alternative, frankly, tax increase we don’t want to do.”

What does this all mean

It means corker can say "at least I tried" while still voting yes

@sahilkapur
Cornyn says Corker want MORE than $350 billion in higher taxes as "he's latched on to the" JCT score showing $1 trillion in red ink after growth.

Good luck...

Yeah, the possibility of the GOP passing a tax bill is super small now. Flake will probably side with Corker on this one.

This entire tax bill is a sh**tcake.

Don't be dramatic. The chances of this thing passing have not changed over last few hours

What has changed is the timing

This is perhaps a stupid question, but what's the parliamentarian's logic behind nixing the trigger provision? Seems like it's pretty closely related to revenue items, no?

I'm trying to figure that out myself

The motion by Sen. Stabenow to send the bill back to committee has failed by a vote of 45-55. Manchin/Heitkamp/Donnelly defect.

Wtf? Why did those three hayseeds defect?

Yeah, Feinstein's right here. As I posted above, McConnell said no vote-o-rama until 11 AM on the Senate Floor. May or may not mean anything since there were some comments about not wanting to make McCain stay up all night.

Our senators should be healthy enough to work at night
