No, I don't think so. The West will just let Ukraine go under rather than risk a nuclear war. The question is which country falls next.

In the first scenario, Putin will be victorious in a matter of days, but refrain from occupying the entire Ukraine, in particular the West. In the second scenario, he would attempt just that, leading to a protracted guerilla war that could last for years.

That's the thing - if it's regime change he's after, he'll need to occupy the whole country if he wants a president of Ukraine who's his stooge. And, well, the western parts of Ukraine won't be particularly happy about that.
