Shopify has shut down Trump's campaign store:

So brave of Big Tech to stand up to Trump the day after he incites a putsch. Roll Eyes

New Jersey and Delaware are sending parts of their National Guards to D.C.
Is this by their own initiative? because that would be beyond the jurisdiction of the state militia. Is it by the request of the DoD? if so who issued it? Trump or Pence?

Murphy said it's at the request of the United States National Guard Bureau, in other words, uniformed Army and Air Force leadership.
can they order this on their own? no need for the order to come up higher in the chain of command? this is the deployment of armed militia in the federal territory after all...

Who's CiNC 'actual' atm?

They are being deployed in a civil, and not military capacity, so their Commanders-in-Chief would be their state Governors. States have mutual assistance agreements with each other for things like this. Obviously DC is not a state, but there are similar provisions in place.

Who holds the authority to ask for assistance for DC? it's not the mayor, so it must be some federal organ. Who issued the request?

DC is a party to the Emergency Management Assistance Compact, and the Mayor can request assistance from states for assistance during a declared state of emergency. What the Mayor cannot do is activate the DC National Guard itself.

Articles of impeachment are apparently circulating amongst House judicial Dems atm.
The only thing that matters is Senate Republicans.

There is nothing brave about resigning days before the end. In fact, the brave thing to do right now would be to stay in office and resist Trump or get fired trying. If any Cabinet Secretary declares such an intention, I think they can be forgiven for their past support of Trump and be considered a true patriot.

The more important list is the 100+ GOP members of Congress who attempted to deny the will of the voters in Pennsylvania and Arizona.

I'm serious. All he ever wanted is to be loved, but he used demagoguery to get it, and he is finally reaping the consequences. I am not excusing any of his actions, but I can't help but feel sorry for anyone who reaches a self-inflicted nadir.

Are they hammering down on every proud boy and Q and an account? At least through the 20th? If not, that is absolutely weak.

I got banned yesterday.

After watching that video, the cop was justified in using deadly force. I refuse to say her name so she’s not turned into some sort of martyr. I’m sorry the situation came to that but I’m not sorry she died. I’m sorry she’d been brainwashed for so long and I’m sorry her kids have to grow up without a mom. She was through that window and close to getting to the reps and the cop made the right split second decision.
He had no choice. The area was barricaded for a reason, and his orders were to secure it and the people inside. Her being unarmed is completely irrelevant given the context of the situation.

I have to say I'm pretty uncomfortable with Google / Apple play store removing Parler from their downloads (in Apple's case, threatening removal in 24 hours). I think these tech companies may be flexing their muscles too much here.

Free market. Let the rednecks learn to code and build their own platform to spout bullsh**t from. It's all feeding this conspiracy nonsense. They use out of context memes as "I'd die for this" evidence and I'm over it.

I'm not a huge fan of the free market, but even taking into account that bad faith argument: Google is a huge monopoly and has almost total control over their market. How the hell is anything supposed to compete with Apple or Google?

And the problem is not even that Google is a business monopoly either. It would be one thing if they had a monopoly in wheat or Christmas trees, but their monopoly allows them to control how people think and behave.

How does the nuclear code thing actually work in practice ?

Trump cannot launch a nuclear missile just with his own code, right ?

There needs to be another and/or 3rd person present (VP, Defense Minister), correct ?

The fact that we are even debating this and the inquiry from Pelosi shows how mentally ill Trump really is and how he’s turned the US into a failed state and Banana Republic similar to Somalia, Syria, Afghanistan or Venezuela ...
The military would not carry out a blatantly illegal order, especially not from a lame duck President.

Feds arresting more of the losers who stormed the Capitol, including the stealing podium guy. They look less happy now.

8 On Your Side has learned Johnson is married to a local physician

I refuse to believe this

Why? I’m certain there were actual physicians there.

I'm being a little tongue-in-cheek, it's just remarkable to me that it's possible for a doctor to marry someone who storms the capitol during a pandemic. We're an absolutely broken country.

What's so remarkable? There were almost certainly physicians storming the Capitol. The pandemic really does not weigh in as a factor when we're talking about a direct assault on democracy.

This is monstrous
I cannot see a police officer being dragged down the steps and beaten.

Doesn't change the fact that this is yet another extremely disturbing video. It gives me physical pain watching it.

Loss of the PGA championship was already mentioned in this thread, but this is more extensive.

There have also been reports of several companies and organizations suspending donations to all Republicans who voted against certifying the electoral count.

This is the PGA of America, which is a separate organization from the PGA Tour, and the only tournament Trump cares about that they organize is the PGA Championship (and the Senior counterpart, I suppose). But I would be surprised if the PGA Tour or R&A (which already excluded Turnberry from The Open rota) didn't do the same.

It seems that Trump's business will be hurt a lot.
If I were him, I would sell all assets as soon as possible.

It'll be tough. Ongoing criminal investigations, hesitance from even Russian or Chinese banks to finance him, business partners fleeing, and an extremely depressed hospitality industry could mean he can't even afford to sell.

Here's a still picture from the same event:

The video's angle doesn't show us everything but you can see that the man in the CAT sweater is there, and at 0:11 you can see a man hitting the officer with the flag, and after that at 0:15 one of the rioters takes his helmet and puts it on his own head.

God forgive America.

There is a video circulating on Parler that is calling for more trouble on the 20th.

Michael Moore did an excellent livestream yesterday warning about further events with armed Trump supporters on inauguration week in DC and all 50 state capitals.

People want to hate him, but he's been right about things more often than not.

I respect him. I obviously disagree with him on politics and I think his movies distort the truth, but he understands America better than just about anyone in the media or politics, left or right.

FBI agents took Eric Gavelek Munchel, age 30, into custody on a federal arrest warrant charging him with one count of knowingly entering or remaining in any restricted building or grounds without lawful authority and one count of violent entry and disorderly conduct on Capitol grounds. He was booked into a Nashville jail at 2:50 p.m.

Trespassing and disorderly conduct? Where are the real charges? He didn't find the taser and restraints in some closet in the Capitol - he brought them with him all the way from Tennessee to take prisoners in the Capitol.

Who would want to buy a former Trump asset?  Even with Trump no longer associated with it, the Trump stench will reduce its value. Unless it's a property that's uniquely suited for your business, best to wait to buy it out of the bankruptcy proceedings where you can at least say you didn't give Trump money, just his creditors.
The Trump Tower here in Toronto was bought for less than its outstanding mortgage by Marriott after the creditors repossessed it, and the whole thing is now history.
The Trump hotel in Toronto was never owned by Trump, it was just a licensing and management agreement. That was when the Trump name was merely divisive and not synonymous with treason, and when the hospitality industry was booming worldwide.

You know, I wonder if all the Cubans and others in Florida who voted for Trump because they thought BIDEN would somehow be the one to turn the US into a banana republic are regretting it now.

Many of them are descended from the kinds of people who were orchestrating right-wing coups in their own country, so...
I expected better from you Antonio...
