SENATE BILL: Making HIV/AIDs History Act (Passed)

This is a bill that takes a number of quite comprehensive actions around HIV/Aids. Firstly the effort to reach zero new HIV infections by 2030; a target adopted by several countries in RL.

For those not fully up to date with how HIV/AIDs treatment works a relatively new medication called PREP means that historically high-risk groups can take one tablet a day, which massively reduces your changes of getting HIV- I think its around 99% effective at stopping it spreading through sexual intercourse and around 75% for drug users.

Legislation I previously worked on has meant that PREP is covered under Atlascare, but this expands it for private coverage & pharmacies- and also has increased advertising to ensure that communities are aware of the drug.

There's of course some issues with it alone (it requires you to be able to access & take the drug once a day) so education plays a huge role.

There's also some efforts around stigma & discrimination which speak for itself; the discrimination that people with a range of illnesses face is one of things that politicians generally ignore.
