It does bode the usual question on STV by-elections not being the fairest - although the other two options aren’t the most optimal - co-option allows for parties to impose people and count back is probably the best option but I think unless you clearly explained the process and unless parties stood sufficiently more candidates to cover it off you’d see the same sort of issues but also it would appear less democratic - could imagine people being like “why are the SNP getting seats now based on support in 2022” type arguments.
