One issue of course is getting to where my girlfriend lives, since that would require traveling through a Trump state and many Trump counties. So my plan is to only get gas and food in Hillary counties. That basically means stopping in Eau Claire, and then filling up in Dane County along the way. Rockford would be OK too, since in the end Winnebago County narrowly voted for Hillary. But I'm not going to get out and set foot in any of the Trump counties that exist between Hennepin County and Lake County, IL. Ideally I could just boycott Wisconsin altogether but alas that wretched place has to be stuck between us.
This has however convinced me that everyone's hatred of the Green Bay Packers is 100% justified.
If you were planning to go somewhere on holiday outside of the US; would you checked how it voted in elections before booking it? Like that seems like such an alien concept to me: one of my best trips was in a place with awful politics (Poland; although it was mostly Krakow which I *think* voted PO which I suppose is better than PiS; although Oświęcim most likely voted PiS which is... regrettable) but I didn't care. Like sure if you're LGBTQ or an ethnic minority or a women in some places there are places to avoid and there are valid reasons not to go somewhere based on the political climate; but that's a lot more complex than "did x place vote for the bad people". Besides you're white (I assume), a man and straight, so that really shouldn't be an issue for you.
Christ, I don't think that other than Berlin (although that was an SPD-led grand coalition) I've ever been somewhere for a holiday that locally has had "left-wing" rulers - Brussels has a PS-led government but that contains almost every party under the sun (both community socialist parties, the Christian Democrats from both, plus the OVLD who are the main centre-right Dutch liberal party and the FDF who are centre-right liberals who care mostly about the rights of French speakers) - basically the only people who aren't in are the French liberals, Greens, Communists and Flemish nationalists. Krakow and Klaipeda I can't check because there's little to no information available in English but the mayor of Krakow is an independent who used to be in the SLD so who really knows, and I don't know about the current Klaipeda mayor but his predecessors were all from the liberal movement so that also didn't have a centre-right government. All of them are nice places that I'd recommend going to, despite the fact that they have governments that you'd probably disapprove of.
Also its hilarious that you seem to be planning this Clinton-voting place only trip to visit your girlfriend who couldn't be arsed to register to vote, its really quite funny.
