I'm only 11 1/2 months from the wedding and I have to have a job before I can ask her Dad and propose to her.  Even a low-paying job will show that I am at least trying.

EDIT: Note that this was said less than a week ago.

With 4 interviews in 48 hours and the dinner being after the first 3, I will at least have the appearance of trying to get a job.  I will not propose to her until I have a job, though, and I will reassure him of that.

Where are you having dinner? Is it just the two of you? Will you pick up the check?

i'm fairly certain he won't say no. Allison is old goods by Oklahoma standards, and I'm sure her parents are just itching to get her married off as soon as possible.

How was the dinner? Where did you go? What did you eat? Have you told papa and mama Bushie the good news?

His absence tonight is telling. I bet he's proposing right now!

I've never been to the midwest, but I intend to go when I get the invitation. Considering a handful of us are responsible for Jeffison still being Jeffison, it's only courteous that we are invited to the wedding. After all, we are owed it.

Was "get a job", "lose weight" and "get rid of the creepy mustache" part of his response?

I don't think losing weight is really a concern for either family...

I presume that, given the father retains ownership over Allison, he will retain rights to her unless otherwise. It seems like Bushie has entered into an option-contract with Papa Bushie, which vests upon his completion of the list of demands, and Papa Allison will keep it open for an undisclosed amount of time.

I just wonder how long Bushie has to complete this list. Further, looking at this from a property viewpoint, I wonder if Papa Allison has the right to end the engagement should Bushie pop the question next week and then fail to complete the list of demands. I assume that Papa Allison has a right of reentry in Allison subject to the conveyance to Bushie since this sounds like he structured it as a fee simple subject to condition subsequent.

Until Bushie reveals the details on this contract, all we can do is speculate.

Again, there are no demands.  The only requirement for proposing to her is that I get a job, first.  No other demands are requirements were made.  Pretty reasonable, I would say, and nothing I wasn't already planning on doing, anyway!

So you must get a job before you can propose? No chance you propose before you have a job?

I'm seeing up for kind of a busy weekend.   I'm going to take Allison to Alva where I went to college on Friday,  then eating supper and watching fireworks with her that evening,  then going to my parents late Friday night and staying there until Sunday afternoon.   I am in no position to propose to Allison this weekend so don't get any ideas.  Smiley

Sounds like a perfect time to me

What does Allison do these days? Could she support you while you were looking for your job?

Yes I wouldn't get too excited, but I will say this is the longest courting period Bushie has ever gone threw, I believe, which is another good thing we Updaters have done for him. Had we not been around, he would have proposed to her a week after they met and then lost her during that poor joke, never to see her again.

However, thanks to our steady hand, he is where he is today.

This of course is all assuming the wedding will actually happen this time...

Obviously, things could blow up as they have before.  However, given how she took him back after the breakup, and given how quickly she seemed to talk up marriage nearly as soon as he did, it sounds like she's pretty eager to get married.  (And I guess she's "old" by Oklahoma standards.)  So it's certainly possible that it could really happen this time.

Not that that means that everything will be great once they're married, or that Bushie won't still be Bushie once he's married.

While that is true, let's not forget how quickly Bushie's past girlfriends have said "yes" after dating for a week or so when he popped the question. It seems to be in the Oklahoma culture to want to get married as soon as possible without thinking things over.

I think this time, Allison will make it to the wedding day, but I wouldn't be surprised if another joke went back and they broke up again.

What a happy day! I'm just amazed at how many call centers there are in Oklahoma considering Bushie has been fired by like 10 of them and yet he keeps finding more to apply to.

Hopefully this will work out, but this green lights the proposal this friday! I can hear the wedding bells now!

I think he has the old rings but didn't want to use them. Tiffanye gave him the ring back after holding it for a month, and Susan returned the ring after Bushie's parents got into a fight with her, which culminated with them throwing the ring back at his parents, one of the more exciting moments of past seasons.

Yeah why not give her the ring if you aren't going to sell it? Why keep it? How on earth can you get a wedding ring for $1000, and especially $200?? I thought they were $8k-$9k minimum!

3 hours total for a wedding and reception?? In what world? The reception should last 4-5 hours at least.

Anyway, I guess you're right. I remember the last girl I was serious with looked at a ring that was $10,000 and I thought that was reasonable. I think my grandmother's old ring was appraised for $11,000 after she died. We've kept that in the family.

And I'm not sure if Bushie has a cause of action against his mother. I'll get back to you on that.

I think it's plausible that Bushie just hasn't received his diploma yet. I haven't received my law degree, but I have received letters and emails confirming I graduated and my certificate of graduation has been sent to the SC supreme court.

Why I might doubt Bushie here is that 1) he claims that he is going to make a career out of a call center and 2) he refuses to call the school, and the 'email' he sent a week ago hasn't been responded to. Typically, that doesn't happen. People normally respond to emails within a reasonable time, so I am assuming that he never emailed.

I think the most accurate answer is that Bushie honestly doesn't know if he finished the course and is afraid to ask because he fears he did not. Otherwise, it's pretty damn easy for him to pick up the phone and call to confirm whether he completed the course or not.

Do you refuse to believe me when I say I finished the course, plain and simple?  There is no reason to doubt me.

Oh Bushie! You have a history of deceit. I know past crimes can't always be used to show conformity with that character trait, but you've lied to us before or simply used ignorance as a defense. I'm not saying you're lying now. I think you truly don't know if you graduated given you haven't received any confirmation and refuse to call to find out.

On the contrary, what is fact is that I know I have graduated and like you mentioned in that same post I just have not received the actual piece of paper, yet.  I am waiting until after the 4th of July vacations are over to call the school.  So, I'll call Monday.

Right, that very well could be it, but like I said, the lack of confirmation you've received and your hesitance to call, which you could have done and settled this weeks ago, are just red flags to me.

Regardless of what your professor said when you last walked out of the classroom, you won't know if you completed the course until you finish all the work. For example, I didn't know I graduated law school until I passed all my exams. Even if my prof said congrats, you're done, on the last day, it wouldn't mean a thing until I got my grades.

That may be true, Bushie. I'm just so curious about why you don't want to call and were so hesitant to email anyone. I still don't believe you emailed them. Being a school, I doubt they'd just ignore student emails like you claimed they did.

Of course, I do remember you did call the career services woman when you said you did, so that's why I'm not totally calling you a liar. It just sounds strange to me, and even stranger when you say you want to make a call center your career after spending $5k+ on CADD.

Update is the lifeblood of the forum. If it dies, the forum community dies. I think I speak for several of us that would agree we visit Atlas far less when Update is on hiatus than when it's in session.

I don't even care about US politics anymore.

So, I guess we didn't get a 4th of July proposal?

Doesn't sound like it. I fear Papa Allison put more strings on Bushie's proposal than he wants to tell us.
