I guess the best answer I've seen so far is telling someone they can't register hurts their feelings. Maybe I'm just out of touch with the younger generation, but would that really deter someone from participating in threads? At least that is an attempt to provide me with an answer. Thanks, Junkie. Well, I would say it is a little bit more than just hurt feelings, but what do I know.  I fairly old so I know less than you about the younger generation.  Consider this:

1.) Over on my campaign post I detailed every registration since December 2010.  Ten individuals attempted to register but did not have enough posts.  Only four of them (40%) attempted again when they had the right number.  If that trend continues, that could be a lot potential posters that for some reason decide not to come back.

But here's my concern: If people are that easily dissuaded from joining, are they people that we should have in Atlasia in the first place?

I was about to post that. We could have people sign up that never care enough to reach the requirements which really makes this bill counterproductive.

I agree with you on pre-registration. The cost far outweigh the benefits in this case.

If anything can be gleaned from the most recent election (federal and NE), requirements aren't the problem. If anything, most of the new members that join never fully get off the ground, and these requirements aren't to blame for this. There's an aura of death around Atlasia. No new excitement. No real scandals. No fresh faces for the most part in proportion to all the new members of late. I think the poor turnout in the easter election isn't an anomaly anymore, but the start of a trend.

And reducing the requirements won't help this problem. It will probably just worsen it. (Think NE on steroids).

Its a shame that people prefer the shock value of scandals and intrigue over practically everything else. I always considered such to be something that occured on the margins, an unnecessary extention and distraction from what made the game great. Thus it lessoned the game and it seemlingly was caused by carelessness or irresponsibility, so it seemed quite easy to purge it. I shudder to think that we find ourselves openly questioning whether taking such a concerted action, against something that was destroying the game, actually succeeded ultimately in destroying it. hmmmm!!!!

It's a shame, you're right. I do think that's one of the reasons why activity is down though. There's no universal figure to hate, no compelling reason for most people to check out the fantasy election site. Hell, most of the threads are days old on the main forum. I wish john engle would return!

Universal figure of hate? What the hell is this, the end of Code Geass? Tongue

Listen to me! What I'm saying is nothing has happened in Atlasia to shake things up in quite sometime. That's why we are seeing such a lack of activity. It isn't because registration requirements are too high! Looking at recent activity, we aren't having any trouble getting new members to sign up. We are having a time keeping them, and even older members, active!

I know I've been away for a few days, but surely I'm not going crazy! Tongue

As usual on this issue, Duke is completely right. Tongue

Of course. Marokai knows what I'm talking about because he and I were once consumed with a problem sparked by a past controversial figure. I'm glad at least someone understands me! Tongue

So what should be done?

Get someone to be Mr. Evil for the next six months? Tongue

I think we're veering off track. I said I'd support 50:14 and I stand by that. I am just saying it likely will do nothing for activity. In short, I'm supporting 50:14 cause I said I would, not because I believe it will do anything. Wink

Oh yes, my amendment from like three weeks ago.

I think you just lost Marokai Blue with that line of reasoning. Wink Tongue

I'll never lose Marokai. We're friends forever. He won't judge me for what I just said because it didn't make any sense!

He hath pre-condemned you . Check the earlier pages where he criticizes people supporting amendments for reasons other than what there effectiveness and practicality is. Tongue

At least I'm being honest about my dishonesty. I could be a flipflopper and drop my support of the 50:14 compromise, or I could trust Marokai will give me a pass on this one. We all make mistakes, right?

I totally oppose the two level registration idea. It's stupid.

This damn thing is still sitting here? As inactive as I've been recently? I might as well not even bother to come back full time! Who needs me!
