Salmon is one of the safer fish for that. I believe that generally, mercury is going to be found more frequently in fish that are a) large and b) apex predators. I've heard shark and swordfish are two of the worst fishes out there for mercury content.

Yeah. I've also read numerous reports here that salmon is safe. Additionally, EU food standards are often even stricter than the US as far as I know.
