Absolutely disgusting, if true.

What I think many abortion ban proponents and Republican politicians don't get that statewide bans are primarily a war on poor women, who happen to be disproportionally black or Hispanic. Anyone from a conservative state with enough money is just going to sit in a plane and have an abortion in California, New York or Illinois, or somewhere abroad. All it does is preventing abortions for less wealthy women/families.

Furthermore, this is just a move backwards by a minority wanting to impose their moral views on society as a whole. Of course anything should be done to prevent abortions and late-term be restricted, but a total ban in some states is not a good idea. Generally, I believe abortion should be rare and legal.

I wonder whether all these male politicians making outlandish statements would do so if (cis)men could get pregnant.

What the heck, this actually happened? I know it was out there and shouldn't be much of a surprise, though I still had hope it may not occur. Welcome back to the 1950s!

The only thing that really accomplishes is that poor women in red states can no longer afford abortions. If you make enough money, it's still possible to go a blue state or Canada. This is just cruel and makes no sense other than scoring political points.

Why didn't Obama fight when we elected him?

He should have pressured Ginsburg to retire in 2013/14.

She and Biden-Collins voters in Maine at least deserve some blame for this as well.

That's certainly a hot take. Not sure a governor could even do this, and if Kavanaugh somehow would have been charged, it would have happened while Trump was still president and therefore able to fill the seat with another right-winger.

Although he didn't vote to overturn Roe, it gives me second thoughts that this would be a good moment for John Roberts to retire to at least allow Biden nominating another justice to bench as long as Democrats have the senate.

Obviously I'd prefer Thomas and/or Alito to go first, but that's not going to happen unless they drop dead.

“This is about saving lives”

Okay, then mandatory covid vaccines.

“No!!!!”
"This is about 'my body, my choice"

Okay, then no mandatory COVID vaccines.

"No!!!!"

If someone genuinely honestly can't perceive the vast Chasm between being required to get an injection or two and carrying a child to term, is an idiot. You are not an idiot, therefore you are not posting in good faith.

if "my body my choice" is the legal principle you are using to justify saying people have a constitutional right to an abortion than by the same justification COVID Vaccine mandates are also unconstitutional.

You can argue that Roe should be codified by a law passed by congress while supporting COVID vaccines but that is different cause laws are not the same thing as constitutional rights.

No, because the intrusion on any right to privacy between an inoculation-remember that we require these for kids to attend public schools?-is inconceivably less than such intrusion on forcing a woman to carry a pregnancy to term. There are plenty of restrictions, or at least work, on abortion pursuant to Casey V Planned Parenthood despite the right to abortion being a constitutional right because of fundamental balancing test. Surely you understand this, right?
I think the argument is that if abortion is an issue of personal medical freedom, then vaccines are too.

this

I guess consevracult "opened your eyes" to opposing vaccines too now? Isn't your state the measles capital of America?

Legislative Action on an issue is not the same thing as a court ruling something is a constitutional right and I certainly support laws when it comes to certain types of vaccine mandates as the legislative process is a legitimate process of passing laws . If Roe was codified into law I would oppose SCOTUS striking that down too cause I would believe the legitimate way to get rid of that law would be a future Republican trifecta coming in and repealing that law which of course I would support the GOP doing.

Ideally, there would be some compromise so that such abortion laws aren't repealed each four or eight years once a new trifecta comes in. For example a ban on late term abortions while up to week 15 they remain safe and legal after a mandatory lesson by a doctor. That would also be pretty close to the majority opinion of the public I guess.

Obviously the problem is that on both sides, but especially on the Republican side, there is zero desire for anything that's not 100% their position among the hard ideologues.

Lindsey Graham is one of the most pathetic - if not the most pathetic - figures of American politics these days.
