He could win Iowa, South Carolina and Nevada among the early states and only lose New Hampshire to Bernard. After a strong showing on Super Tuesday, he would be almost certain to get the nomination. However, he could also lose support over this year. We're still too far away from Iowa to tell. Despite the crowded field, I think the nomination will be settled by early April.

I think it's better for him not to run, but I'd fully support him in the general election and against the Bern. He's a good man and would be a fine president.

Did he make any serious gaffes during his time as Vice President?

Compared to the rest of his political career Biden was kept on a very tight ship language-wise as VP. But I don't think he's going to have the same structure (Obama staff, etc) keeping him disciplined and on message.

He was fine as VP aside from the dumb "they're gonna put y'all in chains" thing from 2012. But when he ran in 2008 he was god awful: the vaguely anti-Indian jokes, discussing how "clean" Obama was, the "Stand up Chuck" incident.

Those kinds of 2007/08 gaffes would be so intensified in the modern media landscape too.

To be fair, he recently made a gave when he said to have no empathy for millenials. Even though it was taken out of context, such comments can hurt hurt him.

If ends up as the nominee, I could see this map (not the most likely path, but possible):

✓ Former Vice President Joseph R. Biden (D-DE)/Senator Kamala Harris (D-CA): 329 EV. (51.74%)
President Donald J. Trump (R-NY)/Vice President Michael R. Pence (R-IN): 209 EV. (45.26%)

Pretty classy from him. You did something wrong without bad intension. Don't let yourself take down by this, Uncle Joe. You're a decent man.

Might as well be an announcement video.

1) he already did
2) It's his decision to run and the voters will then have to make the call
3) LOL

Honestly, this whole thing has made me like Biden even more than before. I acknowledge that he did behave inappropriately at times, but he handled the issue very classy so far. Big difference to the p*** grabber, who, as always, shows no awareness of missbehavior.

Run, Joe, run!

Top Biden aide tells Hill Democrats on 2020: 'Everything is going ahead as scheduled'

A top aide to former Vice President Joe Biden met with Democrats on Capitol Hill on Wednesday to remind them of Biden's work in the 2018 midterm elections in a not-so-subtle nod to the 2020 race ahead.
"Everything is going ahead as scheduled," Greg Schultz, who is poised to run Biden's expected 2020 presidential campaign, said, according to a participant in the room.
Biden is close to making an announcement about his plans for 2020, which could come as soon as next week.

Schultz is the executive director of Biden's "American's Possibilities PAC." He said the former vice president "is committed to growing and expanding the House Democratic majority."

The Atlantic says to expect a video announcement on Wednesday. A kickoff event will either be in Philadelphia (on the Rocky steps no less) or in Charlottesville.

YEEES! JOSEPH!

The old ass clown is running:

Joe Biden is running. The former vice president will make his candidacy official with a video announcement next Wednesday, according to people familiar with the discussions who have been told about them by top aides.

He wants this. He really wants this. He’s wanted this since he was first elected to the Senate, in 1972, and he’s decided that he isn’t too old, isn’t too out of sync with the current energy in the Democratic Party, and certainly wasn’t going to be chased out by the women who accused him of making them feel uncomfortable or demeaned because of how he’d touched them.

This tidbit made me laugh:
Quote
On Thursday afternoon, Biden was in Boston, where he joined the picketing of the Stop & Shop supermarket chain by the United Food and Commercial Workers, in his third appearance with a union crowd in the past six weeks. Workers there, as when he addressed the International Association of Fire Fighters in March, held up run joe run! signs. ”Bankers, Wall Street, and CEOs didn’t build this country,” he told them as he spoke about the dignity of workers, health care, and good wages. “You did!”
He is so full of sh-t. Roll Eyes

I don't know where this idea that he's going to be in bed with corpoorations is coming from. His past doesn't signify it. He's been pro-worker, good ratings from AFL-CIO. Moderate and not "corporatist" are not mutually exclusive.

Yeah, Uncle Joe has wide support from unions. I don't get the hate.

Because he supports corporatist neoliberal policies that benefit rich people. People need single payer and he doesn't want it! Of course we hate him. He's a joke and he should be running in the GOP primary!
[citation needed]
And before you play the reverse card on me, here's solid evidence that he isn't anywhere near conservative.

For many Berniebros, everyone closer to the center than Saint Sanders is neocorporatist $hill or essentially a pro-choice Republican.

Whether people like it or not Biden has the easiest path to victory. Biden just needs to win the Deep South, Ohio River Valley, and the Acela states to go into the convention with a plurality of delegates excluding super. Pete, Harris, and Beto can't breakout as long as Biden is still in and Sanders can't win if he coalesces the establishment. He currently holds the party hostage and everybody who supports somebody else just wishes he drop dead and go away.

This. If Biden doesn't collapse by spring 2020, Harris' best shot is the vice presidential nomination and then run as the frontrunner in 2024 with minor opposition (similar to Al Gore in 2000). I guess Biden would be a one-termer who doesn't seek reelection and has the experience/competence to clean up the mess of Donald Trump.

He'll announce Thursday according to CNN.

Quote
Joe Biden to announce his 2020 presidential bid on Thursday

Joe Biden will announce his presidential bid on Thursday with an online video, sources familiar with the plans confirm to CNN, finally answering one of the lingering questions hanging over the 2020 Democratic race.

The former vice president's team has been laying the campaign groundwork for months, with Biden's decision growing less secretive or suspenseful by the day. But now that he has given the green light to his advisers, Biden is facing one of the biggest challenges of his half-century career in politics.

He is scheduled to hold his first campaign event in Pittsburgh on Monday, a source said, and plans to hit the road to the early-voting states of Iowa, South Carolina and New Hampshire in the coming days.

Joe Biden has a 80s, 90s mindset as a politician.

This doesn’t fit today’s Democratic Party and that’s why he’ll collapse to ca. 5% by Christmas.

I'll bump this if he's still leading by that time.

It's kind of hard to paint Biden as homophobic after he pushed for gay marriage in the Obama White House and officiated a same-sex wedding with a story from 1972. I'm confused as to what the goal of this story is.

Pretty simple: The ideological purists want to take down the candidate who is constantly leading their guy in the polls.

New rule: stop reporting on ANYTHING any candidate believed/said before 1990

That is a bizarre rule. Is expecting moral clarity and consistency of values really too much to ask of a candidate?
Joe Biden would rather stand with segregationist Dixiecrats and right wing Republicans who want to cut social spending before taking a stand for black people and poor working families. He is feckless and useless. Do not want.

Oh come on, your Biden hate gets kind of ridiculous.

The idea Biden is a center-right Democrat is a joke lol , his views are no different really than Obama's and in many ways he helped push Obama to the left even on social issues during Obama's presidency.

A Center-Right Democrat is someone like 90s Bill Clinton, Sam Nunn, or Joe Manchin not Joe Biden

Biden even endorsed same-sex marriage publically before Obama did in 2012. These stories are only intended to sink him in the polls. Mostly to Sanders' benefit (even though Sanders himself has nothing to do with it).

The more this forum dislikes Biden, the more I like him.

Same here, though I'd replace forum with Berniebros. Not everybody here dislikes him. For the past few weeks, he moved up to my number two choice after Bullock. Therefore, GO JOE! You would make a great president!

https://joebiden.com/joes-vision/

looks like he has the beginnings here of an economic-centered message with a potentially broad based appeal, if he can stay focused on it.

Agreed. I think his one of the best campaign websites. Though this may be a question of peronal taste to a degree.

The God Emperor has already sent out a tweet:

Donnelly was "Sleepin' Joe" last year as well. Yet another example of Trump's disgusting racial profiling.

Bob Casey was also "sleepin' Bob". Maybe he's getting senile and running out of nicknames.

Is there going to be a CNN Townhall like with the other candidates? That would be great. His appearance on the The View was pretty good.

Well, I disagree with him on this. Cheney is a warmonger. I would be ok if he said Dubya. He was a terrible president, but is a decent guy.

Been said that. It's why I'm voting for Trump just to make sure he loses.
I posted something about this earlier. Some on the left care more about having an ideological fight than actually beating Trump. The Sanders supporters are never going to win a primary no matter how many times the establishment lose if their main message is vote for our candidate or we will sabotage you in the general elections.

Agreed. As I've said for a while, the far-left's biggest "enemy" has always been the moderate left, not the conservatives.

Side note: Why does this thread always get unpinned?
