Unless anyone has any objections that don't suck, I'm actually going to enforce this thread's rules this time around: the idea of this thread is not to present a counterargument to something as a "little-known fact."  If you have to write a short rebuttal essay to explain why the conventional wisdom is wrong, it's not for this thread.  I think people can figure out the rules intuitively, but I can explain it to anyone who's confused.
