Riley, KS (Kansas State) 52-45 McCain

Manhattan has clearly redistricted between 2004 and 2008, so the Bush totals here will be pretty much useless.  I made this map because Kansas State's campus is actually included with the obviously-GOP Manhattan Country Club, rendering extraction futile.  There is a university district to the west which Obama won, and Kerry about tied.

Here's the map:

The swings are a bit, um, questionable, especially considering wards appeared and disappeared.  In any case, the City of Manhattan (not including more-Democratic absentee ballots) was 58-40 Bush in '04.  By 2008, it was 56-43.

However, in 2004, non-poll voters (not counted with the city) were 21% of votes cast and went 57-42 Bush.  In 2008, that went up to 43% of votes cast, and they went 54-45 Obama.  That makes the precinct-level stuff a lot less useful.

In summary:  In 2004, Kerry very narrowly carried KSU and its community, and by 2008 Obama carried it moderately.

Lafayette, MS (U. of Mississippi) 56-43 McCain

Oxford, Miss., is divided into five precincts.  Ole Miss is west of downtown, just before some suburban areas on the town's outskirts.  Downtown is about twice as long vertically as horizontally.

Oxford 3 and Oxford 4 vote about a block from each other.  Oxford 4 is right off of the campus to the north; Oxford 3 is another block down from the intersection where Oxford 4 votes.  Oxford 3 was 63-35 Obama.  Oxford 4 was 58-41 McCain.

It's confusing because the college portions are adjacent to the blacker parts of Oxford.  Even those parts, though, are only about 40% black.  Unless Oxford 3 is shaped incredibly weirdly, my guess is that it contains Old Miss.  Otherwise it's hard to manage a 63-35 precinct in a town as white as Oxford, especially if the university precinct would be McCain +17.  It wouldn't make sense.  The town isn't white enough for the college to be Republican by 17 points.

Clemson, SC (Clemson) 72-26 McCain

I imagine it's the University precinct clustered with the Clemson and Calhoun ones.  Went 52-45 McCain after being 57-41 Bush.

Knox, TN (U. of Tennessee) 61-38 McCain

Ward 10 South votes within the university's boundaries, albeit at the northern end.  Still a predominately university precinct, it looks like.  Ward 10 North (I'm calling to ask someone about this) is the university neighborhood, and also has hospitals and stuff.  It's heavily white per the Census, but beyond that I know naught.  It was even heavier for Obama, 63-35.

Utah, UT (Brigham Young) 78-19 McCain

It's private, but...

Precincts Provo 8 & 11.  71-25 McCain.

This was, believe it or not, an amazing improvement over Kerry, who lost 84-15.
