He is a centrist on the budget, same-sex marriage, immigration, the military, personal tax, health care, and social security. He is right-of-center on business tax and campaign finance reform.

He is not left on anything.

How is that not a centrist?

Good getting a jumpstart on the baseless smears for 2008, though, when Evan Bayh will beat the feet off you.

I'm sure his "centrist" positions are no missle defense, no FMA, keep letting illegal immigrants come in, oh I promise I won't abolish the military, no tax cuts, increase health care spending, let social security go bankrupt and stay away from free market reform.

Those are the LIBERAL positions.

He's not going to get the nomination. I haven't seen a single Democrat off of this message board support him.

This comes for his PE election file, actually. Maybe you should actually read his positions before you scream "liberal":

http://www.issues2000.org/Senate/Evan_Bayh.htm

He is a reasonable, respected leader. He is almost in the dead center.

Alright, then tell me this. What would be the liberal position on all those issues?

Budget: Ignore the defecit and focus on social programs.

Same-sex marriage: Gay marriage NOW.

Immigration: Grant illegal aliens amnesty.

Military: Cut military funding - it isn't necessary.

Personal tax: Increase income tax for everyone.

Health care: A completely public healthcare system.

You get the idea. You know what a far-left position is.

He is left-of-center on abortion. Your definition of a centrist seems to be agreeing with every single issue of the Republican Party. You aren't looking for a centrist - you're looking for a Republican.

When I said I was a moderate, I was poking fun at myself. When Alcon says Bayh is a moderate, he's serious.

I am a libertarian.

Alcon, he opposes Republicans on EVERY issue and agrees with LIBERALS.

I didn't say he was FAR left. FAR left is John Kerry. Left is Evan Bayh.

"Gay marriage NOW" is no different from opposing the FMA. Because gay marriage exists. Now.

Won't cut military spending is a given. These days, no Democrat presidential candidate would be caught dead going against the military.

Bayh would just be a tool for the Democrats to shove the things you mention down our throats. They won't run on it, they'll run on being "moderates." The effect, of course, is that Social Security goes bankrupt with no free market reform. That illegal immigrants continue to come in, and one day get amnesty. That activist courts continue to rule on the side of gay marriage.

Democrats see their party as a means to an end - to sneak things in under the radar.

Danwxman, the moderates you're talking about are not moderates. Opposing everything is not moderate. Being stuck in the New Deal, Great Society era and pushing against any kind of reform is not moderate. It's reactionary liberalism.

He has many 50% ratings from Democratic and Republican special interest groups. You are saying he agrees with the Republicans on nothing? Bull.

Voted YES on Bush Administration Energy Policy. (Jul 2003)

Voted NO on more funding for forest roads and fish habitat. (Sep 1999)

Come on, Philip, you can read.

He voted against the tax cuts.

At least he agrees with us on the death penalty and the need to actually have an energy policy.

I love the way you phrase this. A moderate isn't going to agree with you on everything! You are complaining he doesn't agree with you on individual idems. Well, duh. He's a moderate!

Bayh wouldn't be my first choice (I'd rather a Populist) but I'd take him over Dean et al

Bayh actually is populist-leaning.
