Interesting topic, but I won't try making a map because I honestly don't know enough.

Christian Democrats would win most of the South and plains, I'm not sure if there are any states where the FDP would be larger. They'd dominate places like suburban Illinois for sure though.

Social Democrats would win most states Kerry won outside the coasts, although I'm not sure how agrian areas vote in Germany so I won't comment there. The Greens would probably do better in the northeast and northwest. I tihnk the Social Democrats would do better in California.

Left Party would be strong in a few urban areas but obviously wouldn't win any states.

Can anyone who knows more make a map?

Wow, you have the CDU doing WAY WAY WAY too well.

There's no way they'd take places like Washington, Oregon, Hawaii, New Jersey, Maryland and Vermont.

Schroeder was hardly too far to the left for anywhere, he certainly wasn't any further left than someone like Sherrod Brown or Nancy Pelosi. Hell, a Schroeder/Kohl matchup wouldn't be much different then your typical Democrat/Republican matchup, Schroeder's policies might actually be to the right of what Kerry would've done (assuming Democratic control of Congress which would be unlikely in that scenario)
