I should probably add that I think Naso would really like this movie, and I don't mean that in a bad way oddly enough (you have to see it to understand why.)

The marketing and name kind of implies a Fast and the Furious type of movie unfortunately.

Horrible Bosses

Very funny movie even if the plot was kind of poorly put together. It's a good thing it's not the type of movie you'd watch for that.

I saw a trailer for that and my first thought was how awkward the title was and how weird it'd be to buy tickets to. Doesn't exactly roll off the tongue and there's no short hand like how most people just bought tickets to "Harry Potter" instead of "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2". I suppose you could just ask for tickets to "Tinker Tailor" but it's not a blockbuster so would the clerk know off hand? Might be a fun movie to observe as someone whose job is to work the ticket booth.

Didn't know it was out in the UK yet either, isn't opening here until December.

Never heard of the novel or the original BBC miniseries until I saw the trailer.

97% on Rotten Tomatoes, eh? I'll probably see it.

Machine Gun Preacher

Could've used some better pacing. Still a pretty interesting story, worth a rental at least.

The Ides of March

Very well acted and plotted movie, though people who pay as close attention to politics as us will be so irked by minor details. The thing that bugged me was the idea that George Clooney's character was basically an open agnostic and yet the frontrunner for the presidency.

Watched Punch Drunk Love and Inglorious Basterds tonight (seen both before). Both are pretty good.

I thought you hated really violent movies and considered them fascist. Huh

12 Angry Men (1997). Not as good as the 1957 version, but still very good.

Since the script was left untouched (as far as I can tell), and the story remained exactly the same, it's hard to say whether the remake is actually "worse" than the original.

I haven't seen it, but I've heard plenty of people complain about the Gus van Sant remake of Psycho and talk about how inferior it is the original, despite it being a shot for shot remake.

Bridesmaids. I thought it would've been better if it didn't really have a goal of being a raunchy chick flick that guys wouldn't hate and just focused on being a raunchy comedy in general, but it definitely delivered in some areas. I don't know if it's a disappointment or relief that there was no Ken Jeong cameo, it seems that that happens in just about all of these type of movies today but then again it's also become very overused.

The maximum amount of time he should appear in a movie is about 5 minutes. When every comedy wanted him for that long and he ended appearing a bit longer he got overused.

Safe House.

I was wondering why so many critics didn't like it, afterwards I kind of realized why, it was kind of slow at times and there were also instances when the plot made no sense at all (South African police must be the most incompetent in the world for any of that to be plausible.) But it had a great direction, seemed very realistic in the action almost, it's good they went this route and accepted the R rating (there isn't a lot of profanity making me think it was written for a PG-13).

I should definitely add The Tree of Life to my list of "films to watch while high" list, after Inception.

The Stepfor Wives

Astonishingly awful. Someone might want to consider explaining the difference between 'suburbs' and 'gated community' to the writers as well.

Original or remake?

I enjoyed the first Stepford Wives, particularly the downbeat ending.

You're probably thinking of the original then, not the stupid remake.

That scene was particularly boring in comparison to the rest of the movie.

The Hunger Games.

The last half hour was a load of sh**t, though I can see how it made sense to the plot. Still, a decent watch.

My biggest complaint after watching it was just how every action scene was shot. It was just that sort of "this is PG-13 but it still needs action so we're going to make sure you can't tell what the hell is going on, ever" philosophy of camera work.

It didn't really bother me that much.  They still showed the injuries.  I think they were just trying to go Cloverfield-manic.  The crap with the CGI beast dogs was baloney and that last fight scene made me feel like I was just watching Twilight.  It was 2 hours of Children of Men with half an hour of some CW show at the end.

Was the crowd particularly obnoxious, or was it as diverse as that Box Office Mojo report said (only about 60/40 female/male and a majority over 25)?

The Three Stooges

Wildly uneven. There were some genuinely very funny bits but also a lot of awkward/boring stuff. Spot on impressions of the Stooges by the actors though, especially from the unknown playing Moe. Surprisingly good soundtrack too.

The trailer looked like an utter trainwreck. The reviews haven't been strong but haven't been that negative. So the reviews are sort of accurate?

Safe

Plot was absolutley ridiculous of course but that's actually part of its charm. It worked for what it was supposed to be. BTW this is the third action movie I've seen all year that based on profanity seems like it was written for a PG-13 but got an R anyway (after Haywire and Safe House), which if anything is a positive sign after studios wussed away from R ratings for years.

So, how much do we expect Chernobyl Diaries to suck by?

Not sure but I certainly don't have any interest in it. The found footage genre blows in general as far as I'm concerned.

This isn't a "found footage" movie, it's shot normally from what I can tell, but it does look pretty generic and unimpressive. The best horror movies are the ones that get in your head and all, not just showing people die really gory deaths a la Saw, Hostel, etc. or simply having things jump out of nowhere.

The Avengers

The problem is that it was too long, since it didn't get too exciting until the big battle with Loki's army at the end. But that alone was payoff well worth it. Definitely a solid winner with Whedon's influence on it clear.

Our Idiot Brother

Great production values and cast for such a low budget film, and smartly written, it was nice that the title character wasn't borderline retarded and closer to how a realistic "idiot" would be like, but the plot (using the term loosely) was kind of disjointed and lacked much of a real narrative, it was just like a string of funny bits and dramatic bits. But that's kind of what I expected.

Young Adult

I actually liked the protagonist, probably because she has some similarities to what a female version of me would be like. This movie was not typical Diablo Cody with crazy dialogue or whatever, but her characters and plots were similar, which worked pretty well. And of course you'll enjoy it far more if you're familiar with Minnesota (I kept wondering what town Mercury was a stand in for, probably somewhere like Fergus Falls.)

Oh and btw, no one ever calls here "Mini Apple". Knowing just how dated and out of touch that sounded is another example of what I said above.
