Also Fukumoto was born in 1983. A "sane GOP" hasn't existed in her lifetime, much less the time she held office. She was a Republican elected official during the same time span Ted Cruz was.

Ing is a crook

He broke some campaign finance laws which I'm willing to overlook due to how progressive he is and how sh!tty the rest of the field is. Without him I'd probably have to support Ed Case and that's a scary thought.

"He broke the law, but I don't like the other candidates, so who cares"

When all the other candidates are absolutely godawful, uh yeah. It's not that they're all worse, it's that they all suck terribly.

If there was another standard mainstream progressive running, like Schatz or even in the mold of Hanabusa, I'd probably support them over Ing due to his issues...but all the other candidates are total garbage, so not an option.

Also capital and the technological factor but yeah sure people don't understand economics so lets seize the means of production.

Do you prefer his anti-gay opponents?

Your dream includes a corrupt guy who had thousands of dollars worth of campaign violations?

Thousands of dollars is quite a lot... sounds like Ing is just as corrupt as the other machine bosses, just pretending to be something different.

It's clear you guys don't actually care about getting big money out of politics when you support trash criminals like Ing. You just want the big money to flow right through your socialist overlords.

Like I said I'd support another candidate if literally every other candidate wasn't a flaming pile of dogsh!t.

Case sucks but at least he was a Democrat two years ago. F[inks] Fukumoto.

My dislike of Case grew stronger when he said that being white was an electoral advantage for him, running against 7 Asian candidates. It's like he's forgotten that white people are only 19% of HI-01, and a good chunk of them are Republicans. If he wanted to run on being white, he's in the wrong congressional district.

The most Asian district in America deserves an Asian-American representative, not a relic from the past running on his white identity.

The most annoying part is that he's basically correct. White people are such a small minority in Hawaii that they vote like a ethnic minority group in mainland America, i.e. pretty strongly for the white candidate. The same trend doesn't exist as strongly for the other ethnic groups.

In the 2014 Senate primary, Schatz won the wealthy, white areas by huge margins, while still winning many Japanese-American precincts against Hanabusa. Hanabusa's strongest ethnic group was actually Filipino-Americans, not Japanese-Americans.

Actually, Hirono & Case apparently tied among white voters in the 2014 Senate primary, so, maybe not. But white voters were still his strongest ethnic group, as he lost the others by fairly large margins.

A progressive white is always preferable to an Asian DINO like Mercado Kim, Chin and Fukumoto.

And yes, Case isn't that progressive but a lot of white politicians from Hawaii are and supporting a disgusting, vile, gay hating sack of sh!t like Mercado Kim over them wiuld be disgusting.

Both Case and Mercado Kim suck (as do Chin and Fukumoto), which is why I'm not supporting any of them.

A lot of Democratic politicians voted against gay marriage, that’s why I was initially reluctant to support Jeff Van Drew in NJ-02, but as long they’re still not using hurtful rhetoric about gay people, I don’t really care now, and I say that as an LGBTQ person.

I think you’re mistaking Mercado Kim with Tulsi Gabbard’s father, who regularly used hateful rhetoric when describing gay people. Instead of decrying a homosexual agenda like Gabbard did, Mercado Kim simply voted against gay marriage, there’s a big difference. One makes you a “fringe, disgusting, vile, gay hating sack of sh**t”, the other just makes you a regular politician, having made disappointing votes in the past.

It still makes her unprogressive and thus completely unworthy of support in such a Democratic district. Why support someome so right wing in a district that can do WAY better?

Also Chin and Mercado are even worse.

It looks like the No Labels folks are rooting hard for Case. Just like they did for Lipinski/Morganelli/Martinez.

lol, of course they are

That's assuming No Labels is even a relevant thing anymore (or that it ever was in the first place)

Ing’s new ad going viral, almost 60,000 views in just a few hours:

I really hope those viewers can vote in HI-1.....

Edit: watched the ad, and boy, that was really good, really emotional.

He’s still a crook.
I'll take a leftist crook over his right wing opponents.

Wow, pathetic, especially considering his opponents aren't even right wing lmao.

They consist of a long term right wing Blue Dog, someone who was a Republican elected the same year Ted Cruz was first elected, a private prison lobbyist and an anti-gay bigot.

(sane)

Nicolas Maduro thanks you for your support.

Are you seriously comparing Ing's minor white collar crime to what Maduro has done?

No, I'm pointing out how obnoxious it is to put (sane) after an insipid statement like "I'll take a leftist crook over his right wing opponents." Obviously a leftist crook is not always better than his right-wing opponents.
The fact remains Ing is a staunch progressive and none of his opponents are. Maduro is an authoritarian sh!tstain, not a progressive.

Knowing Case even if he doesn't lose he'll vacate the seat eventually anyway to do something like primary challenge Schatz and get clobbered. Point is he's less likely to stick around long than the rest of the awful non-Ing candidates.

And frankly as terrible as Case is, at least he wasn't a Republican two years ago, a homophobe, or a homophobe who's a private prison lobbyist.

BTW, Chin's church isn't just a "pray the gay away" one, its a cult. I don't mean that the way some liberals call any socially conservative churches cults, I mean its a literal cult warned about by anti-cult resources including ones ran by fellow evangelicals. Its affiliated with the movement started by a disgraced pastor named Kip McKeon in Boston in the 90s and spread nationwide via proselytization and nasty indoctrination tactics on college campuses. McKeon was later forced to step down but the movement and its abusive practices remain.

Absolutely. The prospect of Chin or Fukumoto winning and receiving national attention ("The man who sued President Blunpf is now headed to Washington!" or "She was a Republican... Then Blunpf happened and she's ready to fight!", etc.) is nausea-inducing - At least Case will be relegated to the status of irrelevant flotsam until he runs his next futile statewide campaign as you stated.
Yeah, Ed Case is probably the least worst out of the non-Ing candidates. The thought of Fukumoto in congress is literally nauseating.

I'm also pretty sure that Case would basically just be a generic D in voting record if the Democrats held the House.

I'm hoping that someone like a more establishment-connected but still pretty progressive state legislator sees him as vulnerable and goes after him in 2020. As awesome as Ing is, someone like him is clearly not the right fit for Hawaii, sadly.
