I'd much rather live a peaceful, affluent lifestyle surrounded by friendly Southern Evangelicals than have to deal with living in a highly impoverished area filled with crime, drugs, and and ghettoes.
I get people here don't like suburbs, but I just can't fathom how someone would choose to live in Detroit over one of the richest suburbs in the country.
My neighborhood has a 34% poverty rate, has plenty of crime and drugs, and the biggest ghetto in south Minneapolis is right next door.
And yet I love it. It's still a very vibrant and fun place to live. Now that the weather's nice I really appreciate being able to walk to be able to go shopping and to all our lovely parks.
