Bachmann's district is not mostly "fundie", in fact by the ARDA measure it includes some of the least religious counties in Minnesota (yes that's misleading.) It's simply full of many low information straight ticket GOP voters and enough fundies to dominate the nomination process. Angry white gun owners who don't benefit as much from government infrastructure and programs as people in the urban cities and inner suburbs. Most of the churches in that area are either Catholic or really traditional and not as liberal as most mainline Protestant. I'm sure plenty of people commute to the megachurches in the middle ring suburbs (like Living Word where Bachmann spoke at in 2006 and threatened the tax exempt status), but that's still a minority of the population.

Bachmann's district does not have many WELS (Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod) and there are no WELS strongholds anywhere in Minnesota. Only one county has a WELS plurality per ARDA (Can't remember which, it's one of the rural ones in the southeast) and then it's only about 15% WELS with the rest very split.
