You won't find a single thing heavier from Iowa. Freedom band, of course.

SSM and Cannabis bills.

Anyone who votes in favour of Cannabis legalisation should be exiled to Syria.

No, he explicitly said he wants poors to have more abortions. That is eugenics.

I invite them to go ahead -- it's not that terrible of a proposal and the aid that'll be provided to Republican efforts in 2014 is inestimable.

Yes an unelected body like the FDA banning trans fat is going to be a HUGE issue in the midterms.

I'm all about being healthy, but I like freedom and the constitution more.

Don't you know, there's a constitutional right to trans fat!

Doesn't seem to have any redeeming features.

sorry, couldn't resist the cheap shot

Honestly, I think it's a pretty boring state.

These posts are all about the state that's home to Dude Fest.

Metal either sounds like someone mowing the lawn or some little kid throwing a temper tantrum by banging on silverware.

Band known for very complex song structures. Great rebuttal to anyone who calls emoviolence "just noise". Of course that's also the band that epitomized Tumblr leftism so strongly pre-Tumblr they used "Humyn" in one of their song titles.

Things that might be fun to requote in reply at a later time (and most certainly qualify for this):

I'm sure all the people that lost their jobs and can't pay for their medical treatment anymore or have zero access to insurance even if they wanted to pay for it will appreciate your principled, Randian stance at the ripe age of 16.

And I'm sure they'd appreciate the lottery system-based healthcare overhaul that you're proposing that has produced cases in which patients are told to wait months for anything from routine check ups to life-altering procedures. I'm also sure they'd appreciate the vast expansion of Government that comes along with it because, you know, free healthcare comes with a price.

But I'm sure if they waited long enough, they would die, no? I'll admit that I do reserve some belief that the Government may be able to provide healthcare, but I can't agree with the principle of letting the modern United States Government do it. It is my firm belief that when Government gets involved, sh*t gets f**ked up (see handling of the auto companies, banks, wars, etc.) So while I believe that the idea of universal healthcare is noble and reasonably practical idea, I cannot trust the modern Government to do it. Maybe we could see reform in which the Government only provides care to those who can't afford it, but still allow some aspect of a free market-based system? All in all, I believe we must keep the free market in play in this area. It is crucial. I support the idea of universal healthcare, but I cannot support its implementation into the modern United States.

The issue is that, for whatever silly reasons, liberal and non-liberal Protestants have broken from the church founded by Christ Himself and will burn in hell for it.

Israel is a Jewish state, that's the basis for its existence, and this isn't something anti-christian in particular. The US has its own laws and ways of doing things that have nothing to do with Israel. Israel doesn't need to change itself just to fit in with the way it is done in the US.

That's the real problem with Bloomberg's soda policy, it doesn't really accomplish anything. Just pointless regulation. Anyone seriously expect the obesity rate in NYC to drop because of it?

For some reason, I'm not surprised that there's someone from Montana who admits they don't take showers.

Haha, that is pretty bad. That reminds me of the people I met growing up (more than one sadly) who were surprised to find out we had cable TV in North Dakota.

But Snowstalker isn't Catholic. He just constantly extols its superiority for...reasons that I have yet to really hear, even though the Church of England is far more liberal than the Catholic Church and thus closer to his views.

18 as a purchase age, no actual drinking minimum.  The best way to prevent unhealthy relationships with alcohol is for parents to expose kids to booze themselves, in moderation- that way it's not some sort of forbidden fruit.

FWIW I was 16 when I first had alcohol and that seems about "right".*

As for the scourge of drunk driving, the obvious solution is to raise the driving age instead.   Maybe start introducing learner's permits at 18, and don't issue full licenses until 21.  (I would also consider raising the age to serve in the military or to own firearms to 21, along with driving- the privilege of operating deadly machinery is not a right in the way that votin' or boozin' is, and really does need to be only entrusted to people who have demonstrated sufficient maturity.  Sorry folks.)

*I would not necessarily oppose a purchase minimum of 16, but it would have to be coupled with raising the driving age for me to support it; and I also don't think it's necessarily a bad thing for teenagers to be able to be exposed to alcohol before they're allowed to buy it themselves.

Terrible parts in bold.

I'm aware that my specific proposal regarding the driving age is more idealistic than practical, and I'd be happy to have an open discussion about that- keeping in mind, of course, that "automobile ownership" and "mobility" are far from the same thing.  (I'm aware that this point is not obvious to many- and the fact that it is so obscured is the first problem we have to tackle.)

But it is an indisputable fact that cars are indeed deadly machinery (more deadly than firearms in fact), and thus need to be regulated and restricted to protect the life and limb of both its operators and victims.

The main problem here is you are basically forcing people to live with their parents until 21 unless not in college, especially as a learner's permit is basically worthless unless you live with your parents. I'd have no choice but to go home every summer in college until I was 21.
