Wow, this guy lives in St. Paul too, kind of a surprising place for someone like that. It'd make sense if he was from Michele Bachmann's district of course, but not St. Paul. Obviously this means he's not getting a sympathetic jury though.

I hope they cut off both his hands, so that he can never wield a weapon again. No jail time or fines though.

That'd be cruel and unusual punishment, though I think a lifetime ban on firearm ownership is a given regardless of how much time he gets.

I really don't care if AK-47s are legal because they're not particularly useful guns for organized crime or even spree shootings, but they also obviously aren't good for hunting and won't work for self-defense. The only reason why a private citizen would need to buy an AK-47 is because they feel like a badass holding it, or because they seriously believe they'll need it one day to engage in some sort of guerrilla war against the government.

Although as I noted, what's the purpose of a civilian AK-47? It's not useful even for organized crime. The only real thing the AK-47 is good for is guerrilla warfare.

If people want to complain about a gun with no civilian usage and is quite dangerous, submachine guns like Uzis and Tec-9s are the way to go. They obviously aren't for hunting, suck for self-defense (likely would take out some innocent bystanders in a crowded area too), and actually are effective for gang style shootings or someone on a spree, plus bank robbers like them because they are easy to handle yet intimidate people by firing in the air. Not that I think banning them necessarily would stop their usage in crime, but it's a more logical target than guns that are basically hunting rifles with silly cosmetics on them to make them look more badass to who's holding it/scary to everyone else.
