There is no such thing as a Jewish Mormon. There might be ex-Jews that convert to Mormonism (not many of course but I'm sure there's a few, no more odd than black Mormons), but one can not be Jewish and Mormon any more than you can be both Wiccan and Baptist.

Is it possible to have two religions? Because I thought if you converted out of a religion, you are no longer a member of that religion.

Yes that should be common sense. I can see someone being split between two or more different denominations in a religion, but not in two different religions.

I suppose there are syncretic religions, but I'm having a difficult time imagining what a syncretic Jewish/Mormon one would be like.

Did you even bother to read the first sentence in the OP, or just the title?

It's a Winfield post. I have a habit of zoning out the content of those.

But it would be inaccurate to describe the maybe five people who would fit the criteria in the OP as "Jewish Mormons".

Actually we might be able to get a rough estimate of the number of converts to Mormonism from Judaism in the US. There are approximately 6 million Mormons in the US. I remember reading that half of all adult Mormons are converts. Mormons have lots of kids and big families, so let's assume a good third of those are kids, leaving 4 million adult Mormons. That means 2 million people have converted to Mormonism. Meanwhile the last estimate of the percentage of Jews in the US I've found is 1.7% of the population. So 1.7% of 2 million is about 34,000 converts from Judaism to Mormonism. In contrast there are 57k people in my community in Minneapolis alone.

But since converts tend to be the most zealous of a religion's followers, I'd imagine most of those 34k will be voting Romney.

There's also no such thing as an 'ex-Jew', any more than there is an 'ex-Kalmyk' or an 'ex-Cherokee' or an 'ex-Anglo-Saxon'.

There might be no such thing as an ex-Ashkenazi or ex-Shepardi, but there are definitely ex-Jews:
