Why is Stockholm right wing? That seems odd.

Stockholm has some very wealthy upper-middleclass suburbs, like Danderyd, Nacka, Ekerö, Täby, Lidingö... as well as some very wealthy inner city areas like Östermalm, Kungsholmen, and Norrmalm that votes for the Moderate Party around 40-60% while the Social Democrats does 15-25% at best in those areas. Stockholm as a whole is actually a pretty wealthy city, and except a few poor suburbs in Botkyrka, and the city of Södertälje, there aren't really any poorer, left-wing areas in the whole of Stockholm County.

I'm talking about the city itself. Suburbs are not part of the city, ever. Period.

Stockholm proper sounds kind of like Manhattan, but that sure as hell isn't conservative.

But where do the suburbs begin and the city end?

There are clearly defined borders. For example note the Hennepin County map:

It's quite obvious what is the city and what are suburbs.

Actually it appears that in 2002 when the Social Democrats won, they actually won much of Stockholm including the most inner-city areas. The areas the Moderate Heroes won look more suburban. So much of Stockholm is certainly competitive, even if the entire area voted Moderate Hero in 2006.

I'm not sure what you're basing this on, but it is nonsense. I mean, I actually live in Stockholm so I think I know better what is suburban and not.

It is true that in 2002 (an election won by the left nationally by almost 10% they virtually tied Stockholm (although the right still won more votes there).

It is not true, however, that they won the inner-city areas. They voted overwhelmingly for the right. There is no easy way to ascertain the exact numbers though since the inner-city does not correspond to a given district(s).

The map is kind of small but it does look like most of the smallest districts in the center are red.

And Feminist Initiative got local seats in Simrishamn, the home of the party leader, with almost 10% of the local vote.

Given than the women's right are well-avanced in Sweden, I suppose than this is an radical and extremist party?

I think they want to abolish marriage or something.

Their leader came out in favor of a "male tax" that only men would have to pay, supposedly to make up for costs dealing with domestic abuse and rape. I think some other member in it also campaign to ban urinals at some Swedish university (because men being able to urinate standing up gave them some sort of feeling of superiority over women, or something like that.) Anyway they are indeed nothing but insane stereotypes and getting any seats anywhere is quite depressing.

Hey I just found out the leader of the Sweden Democrats took that position when he was only about my age and has held office since 19. I'd think that'd be pretty cool if it wasn't such a vile party.

If I'm reading the wikipedia map correctly they got a ton of votes in that far southern peninsula and got almost no support elsewhere. Is that some sort of economically depressed post-industrial area?

Well the map kind of sucks:

More support is actually represented by the lighter colors (complete opposite of Atlas scheme.) And not much of a clue over what the color legend is. Looks like they had relative support in the central part of the country too.
