Most likely though, as with almost everything, people will forget about soon enough and it won't affect anything. Remember when we almost went to war with Iran and how that would affect the election?
If it does become a global pandemic, it's not likely to hit USA in a major way until a few months from now. Probably not until late spring or summer, so convention time. Even if USA/North America is mostly spared from the disease, it is still likely to put several countries in Asia, Europe and Oceania into recession (Japan, Australia, UK, South Korea are among the more likely victims), which will then seriously dampen the global growth level, which also will affect the US economy in a substantial way.
In any case, the Corona virus can only have a negative effect on Trump's reelection campaign. Reduced import from China will lead to higher prices and possibly higher unemployment in the US in the short term. The stock market is likely to continue to freak out too, especially since stocks have reached an all time high several times during the past few months. This disease is not easy to contain geographically unlike the ebola virus, and it seems far more contagious too. It doesn't help that symptoms often doesn't occur in a patient until 2-4 weeks after the virus enters the body.
