Wow, the Risk gods smiled down on me.

Some good rolls for Tyrion turned 28% odds into 83% odds.

I actually calculated my odds considerably lower than that (in the teens). But losing only one battalion made life much easier for me.

You might as well prepare for NM -> CO -> KS -> MO, Joe.  Assuming you haven't already rolled it.

Orders: Unsurprisingly, that's exactly what I want to do. Here's the caveat: if I'm forced to attack with less than two dice, then await orders. Otherwise, fulfill the complete attack.

I mean, I guess it doesn't matter. I would have obviously attacked. I'd have no incentive not to.

Well, this is one of those awkward situations. I mean, Joe didn't follow orders. But we know what the next dice roll would have been, right? What would you have done if he had stopped?

I mean, "fate" says you don't defeat Polnut.

I'm in a bad position to talk on this, but yeah.

Well, like I said, I'd be nuts not to attack there.

With that said, this is more of a "Joe's policy" decision than anything. I mean, if he lets me "await orders", I'm going to attack again, and I'll have a ~41% chance of winning.

Ugh, I HATE it when I keep making mistakes.  Sorry guys.  Sad

Okay, at the point I should have stopped, Tyrion would have had 2 battalions in Kansas, and Polnut 1 in Missouri.  I'll let Tyrion decide what to do (based on this provisional map), BUT if you decide to go ahead and attack Missouri anyway, I will have to maintain the exact same die roll that played out in that attack, because it just wouldn't be fair that you'd get a freebie second shot just because the first try didn't succeed.

So I guess you have the choice of: (a) end your attacks, proceed to the optional tactical move and end turn; (b) attack Missouri and lose ...... or (c) attack somewhere else and have a fair, fresh die roll.

I realize that still isn't very fair given that one of these outcomes is already determined, but it was mistake and I can only apologize. Sad

Frankly, it seems reasonable enough. I'll just tactical move from Kansas to Colorado, in that case.

Sorry, I haven't played any of these Risk games, but I've been lurking a bit recently.  Does Tyrion have any cards (which would then go to whoever vanquishes him)?  Because if so, then I'm not sure what sense it made for Matt to attack Oklahoma (which I guess makes him lucky for failing).  Without OK to worry about, wouldn't Snowstalker have been able to rather easily vanquish Tyrion on his turn?  He can still do it now, but it's not a sure thing.

Well, I wouldn't want to reveal my research or my cards, but I'm not sure that it's quite so simple. Matt would be able to pick up the South bonus with OK, and I think it's quite possible that Snowstalker would rather stalk closer to the snow (i.e., control the NE corridor), so to speak.

I do, however, think I'm not too long for this game. It has really always been that way, since I deployed my troops very poorly at the start (and played 6th, which was a huge disadvantage).

Unless Hagrid has a card set he can turn in, he can't knock out Tyrion.  Four obvious options here.  Strike west to impede Matt.  Strike east to impede Snowstalker.  In either case, if he gets lucky he could keep them from gaining any regional bonuses. The third option is to be a plague on both so as not give either an advantage.  The fourth is to strike South or Southeast to get out of the way of the final two and have a better chance of getting 3rd place instead of Tyrion.

Hagrid should have a set, I think. Polnut left him with a veritable bounty, iirc.

It's sort of like being gruntled rather than disgruntled.

Or flammable, rather than inflammable.

Wait, what?

Great game!

Gah, that game could have gone soooo differently if I had been able to take Polnut's cards Sad So close, and yet so far.
