Weird...it seems to ahev swung against the tide in both 1980 and 1988.

Well, it didn't really swing against the tide in 1988, it's a Democratic county overall, but not overwhelmingly so, thus it would make sense that Dukakis would win it, and also Carter in 1980. The reason that it voted for Ford in 1976 is probably because Michigan was Ford's home state.

I HATE HATE HATE Carver. I'm so glad I-169 curves so it doesn't pass through it because I don't even want to drive through that hellhole. No suprise there.

Also no suprise with Otter Tail. That and Carver are the other 2 counties that voted for Goldwater. I wonder if they've ever voted Democratic. Both counties are filled to the brim with rich folks and religious nutjobs.

Fillmore's a big suprise though, it's in a rather Democratic area, it's right next to Mower which is one of the most Democratic counties in the state, and it voted for Gore. Must've changed a lot.

Actually you mean US 169, not I-169. Smiley

Carver and Otter Tail both voted for Roosevelt in 1932, Carver voted for Wilson in 1912 and LaFollette in 1924, and Otter Tail voted for Roosevelt in 1912. Other than that, they've voted Republican in every election since 1900.

1960 - Nixon
1964 - Johnson
1968 - Nixon
1972 - McGovern
1976 - Ford
1980 - Carter
1984 - Reagan
1988 - Dukakis
1992 - Clinton
1996 - Clinton
2000 - Gore
2004 - Kerry
Now this is seriously weird.

Washtenaw County, MI, (Ann Arbor, University of Michigan, etc.) where I atteneded the University, has the exact same voting pattern.

Yeah, weird from 1968-1980 to go from Nixon to McGovern to Ford to Carter.

In the case of Washtenaw, I think it was trending left, but had to vote for Ford because he was a Michiganian and a U of M alumnus.
