Before I forget, I should mention that Somerset county was Perot's best in Maine in 1992. (For 3rd party candidates, I am going to include them if they won any counties in the state, or in the case of Roosevelt in 1912, I'll include him in every state since he finished 2nd nationally)

Vermont

                  Most Dem             Most GOP
1956          Chittenden           Orange
1952          Franklin                 Lamoille
1948          Grand Isle            Orange
1944          Chittenden           Orange
1940          Franklin                Orange
1936          Chittenden           Orange
1932          Chittenden           Lamoille
1928          Chittenden           Orange
1924          Essex                   Windsor
1920          Chittenden           Addison
1916          Grand Isle            Addison
1912          Chittenden           Addison (Roosevelt-Orleans)
(Note: Wilson lost Chittenden, but he won Grand Isle County, even though his percentage of the vote was lower in Grand Isle)
1908          Grand Isle             Orleans
1904          Chittenden            Orleans
1900          Franklin                 Addison

Massachusetts

                 Most Dem             Most GOP
1956          Suffolk                 Nantucket
1952          Suffolk                 Barnstable
1948          Suffolk                 Barnstable
1944          Suffolk                 Barnstable
1940          Suffolk                 Barnstable
1936          Suffolk                 Barnstable
1932          Suffolk                 Barnstable
1928          Suffolk                 Barnstable
1924          Suffolk                 Dukes
1920          Suffolk                 Dukes
1916          Suffolk                 Dukes
1912          Suffolk                 Hampshire (Roosevelt-Barnstable)
1908          Suffolk                 Dukes
1904          Suffolk                 Dukes
1900          Suffolk                 Barnstable
1896          Suffolk                 Barnstable

Suffolk has been the most Democratic county in Massachusetts in every election since at least 1896, that's pretty remarkable stability.

Correct... and Matheson is probably glad to have it in his district...

Matheson won Carbon with 68% of the vote in 2004.

Nevada
Most Dem is easy:
1960-68 White Pine
1972 Clark
1976-84 White Pine
1988- Clark
Most Rep is more confusing (as usual):
1960-72 Douglas
1976 Elko
1980 Eureka
1984 Lander
1988, 1992 Churchill
1996 Eureka
2000 Elko
2004...does anybody have a pocket calculator handy? Elko and Lander both weigh in at 78.0%
Elko 11938/15309
Lander 1602/2053
Whatever is the slightly higher number.

I did the division for you, and Lander is slightly more GOP.

Do you have Windows? If so, you have a calculator built in to your computer...

Really? Where?
I know there used to be one in the old pre-Windows Word. Plus of course there's Excel...

Just go to your Start Menu, All Programs, and then Accessories. Should be right there if you have Windows XP. If it's an older Windows, it should still be in the Accessories folder.

Connecticut
                Most Dem             Most GOP
1956        Hartford                Fairfield
1952        Hartford                Litchfield
1948        Hartford                Litchfield
1944        Hartford                Litchfield
1940        Hartford                Litchfield
1936        Hartford                Litchfield
1932        Windham              Litchfield
1928        New Haven           Litchfield
1924        Windham              Fairfield
1920        Windham              Fairfield
1916        Hartford                Tolland
1912        New London         Tolland (Roosevelt-Fairfield, though Roosevelt won no counties in CT)
1908        New Haven           Litchfield
1904        New London         Litchfield
1900        New Haven           Windham
1896        Hartford                New Haven

Kind of weird that New Haven went from most GOP to most Dem from 1896 to 1900, especially since the candidates were the same for both parties.
