Hope this is over quickly and with few deaths.

I have a friend from Georgia. I don't know where she is, but I hope she's OK.

Do they even have a reason? You can't just suddenly invade a country.

Defending Russian citizens in South Ossetia. The ones they gave passports to in order to undermine the Georgians there.

Russia may or may not have started this, but Stalin certainly did when he partitioned Ossetia.

That's right, it seems that Caucasian borders have been created to create problems...

As were those in Africa...

and that's EXACTLY the reason why Georgia shouldn't have provided the Russians an excuse.

Putin/Medvedev would find any reason.

Why should Georgia, or any other state, have to conduct its affairs around what pleases Moscow? Or Washington?

The Russians have been mistreating the Georgians since before independence. In fact, for a good couple of centuries.

Well, I guess Georgia has just "surrendered"... they've declared an unilateral cease-fire.

Which Moscow says hasn't happened. Now they've just bombed Tbilisi international airport.

The Georgian President right now is on CNN stating his case.

He's been doing that a lot on the international networks.

Apparently, the Georgians shot down a Tu-22 "Blinder" (I don't think the Russians have those still) or a Tu-22M "Backfire".

Ukrainian population are apparently divided on this.

There's no sane reason for Russia to occupy Georgia. Installing a more favourable (but perhaps not too favourable, actually...) would seem more likely, if it comes to that.

Quite.

Seems the Russians aren't allowing the Red Cross and other international organisations in.

They're also suppressing casualty numbers.
