You're not just restricting the 'contribution' to the economy and whatnot, your also restricting citizens from just visiting here, which will piss people off. But while we are on the subject of free trade, its quite ironic that someone who probably claims to be a small government fiscal conservative such as yourself (please correct if I'm wrong) would restrict the free flow of money and consumption.
