I agree Pelosi's request is not a coup. Trump is still authorized to use nuclear weapons in a situation that calls for it (if we're attacked for example) and they could not be deployed without his authorization. But he can't go rogue and say fire off a nuke at Iran in some kind of Wag the Dog scenario (and there were already protection against this).

How does the nuclear code thing actually work in practice ?

Trump cannot launch a nuclear missile just with his own code, right ?

There needs to be another and/or 3rd person present (VP, Defense Minister), correct ?

The fact that we are even debating this and the inquiry from Pelosi shows how mentally ill Trump really is and how he’s turned the US into a failed state and Banana Republic similar to Somalia, Syria, Afghanistan or Venezuela ...

Both President and Secretary of Defense have to authorize it. Sec Deff doesn't have the authority to deny the request if it's a legal order, nonetheless it doesn't go through without his authorization.

Are Capitol police refusing them entry ... stopping them from acting like an elitist, bratty adolescent? If not, they should be. Use force if necessary (man-handle them and their unchecked bags/briefcases.)

If they're going to vote, I don't think they can stop them. For any reason.

So my understanding from that is, if he is convicted by the Senate, his potential pardon immunity is voided for any federal charges related to the events of the 6th?

I don't think so. He can't pardon somebody out of getting impeached, but he can still pardon them from criminal liability, for anything.

"except in Cases of Impeachment" means a pardon cannot stop an impeachment process. It has nothing to do with criminal liability.

It says it's a rule change (the fines). So they don't need to pass a bill (Senate + Biden) for this?

I wonder if there's a 27th Amendment issue there.

I’m PRETTY sure he was joking there. I don’t think even Rudy is THAT nuts.

It's definitely from Game of Thrones. Maybe he was joking about the documentary part.

I think she said she couldn't access it but she's been tweeting since.

US takes back its assertion that Capitol rioters wanted to 'capture and assassinate' officials

Quote
Justice Department prosecutors have formally walked back their assertion in a court filing that said Capitol rioters sought to "capture and assassinate elected officials."

A federal prosecutor in Arizona asked a magistrate judge in a hearing on Friday to strike the line in a recent court filing about defendant Jacob Anthony Chansley, a man who is alleged to have led some in the crowd in the first wave into the Capitol with a bullhorn while carrying a spear and wearing a fur headdress.

The entire line the prosecutors want to omit from their court filing is: "Strong evidence, including Chansley's own words and actions at the Capitol, supports that the intent of the Capitol rioters was to capture and assassinate elected officials in the United States Government."

No charges have been recommended for the cop who shot the lady whose name I’m not gonna say.

Good. They were trespassing and warned. He did his job.

She was stunned by Biden's inauguration. How this South Carolina mom escaped QAnon.

If anyone is interested, watch this 5 minute video.
I find interviews like this, captivating and shocking. Just complete disbelief that normal people could not only fall for this nonsense, but make it a major part of their life (and thus allow it to destroy them and relations with their loved ones).

It's kind of amazing how much of a turnaround she's accomplished in just 2 weeks.

Really amazing how Jan 6 just erased an entire summer of advocacy for Black Lives Matter views on use of force by police.

I've had very little to say about that, if anything. I can't recall offhand any posts I've made about that.

Do you agree that "they were trespassing and warned" is a sufficient reason for police to shoot someone?   It's pretty clear to me that liberals would only apply that standard to redneck deplorables.   Or maybe a scary homophobic muslim.

Again, you are assuming and ascribing a standard to me that I never advocated for.

Trump has privately voiced concern about being charged related to January 6 riot

Quote
Former President Donald Trump has privately voiced concern in the last two weeks about whether he could face charges as a result of the January 6 riot he's accused of inciting, according to multiple people.

Trump has mainly been quiet since leaving the White House last month, and his silence has been in part related to those concerns.

"He's worried about it," one adviser close to Trump told CNN.

In his speech explaining his acquittal vote Saturday, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell strongly implied the legal process should address Trump's role in the riot, which he said the former President was "practically and morally responsible" for. Rep. Liz Cheney, the No. 3 House Republican who has faced backlash for her vote to impeach, has said similar.

I think they want it to be bipartisan for the optics, but regardless they need at least McConnell on board so it can pass the Senate.
