Says who? There are no taxpayer dollars are stake here, right? If a company wants to cut into its own profits to pay someone a high salary, why "shouldn't" they do so? Presumably they made the judgment call that a large salary was necessary to get someone of high quality. It's just market forces.

Says me. No one is worth that much to society. I suppose you're not familiar with socialism?

Of course I'm familiar with it. So then you want there to be a maximum wage law, as opposed to the NYT voluntarily not paying their editors that much?
