What the hell does this have to do with Obama?  This is not Obama's choice and he has nothing to do with it.

Did I mention Obama?  No.  Interesting how you assumed it.

That was the point.  Supposedly attitudes were changed with the election of a non-white president.  Here we see an example of race baiting.

Obama had the good sense to just come out against it.

Well, Burris said on MSNBC that he'll challenge any decision by the Democrats to not seat him.

This is going to get ugly folks.

Yes, it will.  And you are correct on expulsion being the only real option.

The only ways that I can see out of this are:

Let Burris be a Senator for two years.  Regard him as an untainted compromise.

Let Burris be seated, but say, "On the grounds of a tainted appointer, we are expelling him.  Nothing personal."

I think this qualifies as a "rough patch."

Here would be a possibility.  In 1919, a state commission submitted a petition to expel Robert La Follette, which a Senate Committee reported unfavorably on.  If the Illinois Legislature were to adopt a resolution for Burris's expulsion, that might provide cover.

It's traditional to cite Marbury v. Madison in the SCOTUS, because you are basically telling the Justices how important they are.  Powell v. McCormick will probably be the one.
