Considering that both Happy Days and American Graffiti, were from the early 1970's, even Animal House (which was very early 1960's), and the first Superman in 1978, I think the premise is flawed.

Greater icons of the 80's, in terms of entertainment, were Michael Jackson, Madonna, Prince, and possibly Bruce Springsteen.  Those were not nostalgia acts.  Smiley  Hip Hop really came into its own in the late 1980's.  Vietnam themed films where repeatedly in the top ten grossing films.

TV was Dynasty, Dallas (though late 1970's) and the The Cosby Show.  An upscale physician married to a lawyer was not exactly Beulah.

I'd call the 80's elegance, but not bling.

I can add Grease, 1971 (play), 1978 (movie).

the idea that the 60s were a time period of anarchy and nonstop drugs and sex isn't completely true. My parents spent their grade school and high school years in the 60s and they said that the 60s that people think of didn't really start until around 1966/1967.

I would almost say that "The Sixties" began on 11/22/63 and ended on 8/9/74.  That's why I'd consider Animal House to be 1950's film.  8/9/74 to 11/4/80 might be the "The Hangover."  Smiley

Are you saying that almost half of the Sixties didn't actually take place during the Sixties??

Using ConKiller's comments to preface it, yes, "The Sixties" does not strictly correspond to the period starting on 1/1/1961 and ending on 12/31/1970, inclusive.

Other dates I might use 2/7/1964 to 12/8/1980.

Ah, so you're also one of those weird people who (officially) counts 1970 as part of the 1960's, but not 1960.

Yes, just the the Millennium on 1/1/2001 and not on 1/1/2000.

And I'd bet if you were a car owner, you wouldn't much care if your odometer rolled over from 99,999 to 100,000, but you'd hoot and holler about it a mile later.

Pedants can be amusing sometimes.

I sure as heck didn't celebrate the start of the new millennium on 1/1/2000.

Wait, so you're actually trying to tell me that December 31st 1999 was just another normal New Year's Eve?  And that December 31st 2000 was the real party?  Roll Eyes

I lit candles in case the power went out.

If I were ever to time travel back, I'd troll the f@@k out of people.  "In the Year 2000, we will all wear jumpsuits as we drive our flying cars."

Have fun trolling people. I'm investing in google.

Planning to have the 13th Amendment repealed?

Why on earth would he use his time travel powers to go back and re-institute slavery?  I don't get it.

Because I'm not wearing glasses and thought it said "people."  Smiley
