Lets see how Western Europe(with exception of UK) does without US spending money on their defense.

France has more military capability than the UK - the Charles de Gaulle is an extremely capable carrier that is fully inter-operable with USN fighters and they have the nuclear triad. France is probably the only country other than the US that is able to truly project power anywhere in the world with its navy. The UK has to rely on "unsinkable carriers" like Diego Garcia and Akrotiri and Dhekelia. France also has very strong intelligence capabilities that should not be underestimated.

Yeah. For all the crap France unfairly got in the 2000s they're a major power. DGSE is a rung below the Mossad in terms of "terrifying spy agencies"
