I think it's just returned to its (very) Republican roots.

The 2000 election was a fluke in many ways. New York was one of them.  While I certainly don't think any Republican will win the win state for a while, losing by 25 points probably won't happen either.  18 points is much more realistic because there are just too many naturally Republican areas in upstate New York for this to change "that" much.
