bump!

Make sure you all read my marijuana story!

While I do think pot should be criminalized, I view this as being a issue for the individual states or regions to control and not the federal government to make law upon.

So, I do support the Marijuana Legalization Act, but I would support it being criminalized in my particular district.

I researched this vote seriously, since it looked like at the start of the evening it might make the difference for one or the other candidates.

It is not meant as a personal affront to either of the candidates.  Both of y'all are good candidates.  Harry is a tireless and great campaigner.  He PMed me three times reminding me to vote, and it seems to me that he really cares about the future of Atlasia.  I hope that he returns to government soon.

I just decided we needed a new face, an outsider in the Atlasia Senate that stood closer to where my beliefs are, a belief in limited government and states' rights.  And when I researched these things, this is where I found my vote going in preference.

The NRA will hunt you down like a Pointer.

Who runs the NRA around these parts, or will I have to form the organization myself?

Don't mean to correct you Colin, but I am leading States 6-4 right now (FDR's write-in vote for Harry flows to me as 2nd pref., though it's a little odd looking).

Also, Hughento is still leading King 7-6.

There are two uncast votes in D5.
And one of States' votes is actually a vote for "Sam Rights" with StatesRights as second preference.
But we're agreed on the Presidential.

The SC might disagree with me, but I think whenever a vote is placed for a registered voter that doesn't exist it automatically goes to the next candidate listed.  Now, whether that counts as a 1st pref. or not, I don't know.

I will correct both that and the other mistake.

Well, that's only my count as of 12:00 PM EST today.  Al certainly has not lost yet.

There's still plenty of time for Al to get more votes and cause one of the other two candidates (Lewis, Kemp) to be eliminated in the 2nd round.

As of right now, though, Al is eliminated in the 2nd round and one of his voters, StatesRights, is eliminated because he didn't 2nd pref anyone.

Simply put, if Lewis is eliminated, Al will win.  If Kemp is eliminated, it will be close, but I give the edge to Lewis.  If Al is eliminated (as it looks like right now), the race will be down to the wire, too close to call, imo.

Election Analysis[/i]
Presidential Race
By National Atlasian’s Special Election Correspondent, SamSpade

In the past few days, much of the actual results from this weekend’s election have been overlooked by the travesty that occurred after its closing.  As President-elect True Democrat ascends to the Presidency, we at the National Atlasian are hopeful of his success.  His public choices for Vice-President, GM and the various Cabinet positions reflect an intention on his part to heal the various wounds that have come out of this weekend’s post-election debacle and we applaud him for that.  Now, we hope that the many issues Atlasia must deal with in the upcoming weeks can be solved by a President and Senate working together, instead of at odds for a change.

Much of the analysis of the Presidential results in the past few days has focused on the votes of inactives, trolls and other such voters within Atlasia.  It is this correspondent’s viewpoint, however, that the factors that but a few weeks ago seemed to show an impending KEmperor/Alcon landslide are more complicated than that.  The Lewis Trondheim/True Democrat ticket only won by four votes, a relatively small number in such large races as the Presidency.  Even the very strong leftist GOTV drive could have been defeated if certain rightists and center-rightists had voted for KEmperor/Alcon or at least 2nd preferenced him.

Chief among these voters is soon-to-be-former President PBrunsel, who chose to 2nd preference Lewis Trondheim/True Democrat after writing in Liberty/WMS for 1st preference.  One must wonder why a man who holds such strongly conservative social and economic values would vote for a candidate whose beliefs are totally at the opposite end of the spectrum.  Even the Al/Siege40 ticket would have been much more in tune with his values.

Another among these voters was the soon-to-be-former Senator StatesRights/Governor candidate Zebulon Vance.  Early in the campaign, he professed his support for the KEmperor/Alcon ticket, but balked and tried to run as a conservative alternative when Alcon was picked as the VP candidate.  Ironically this move, combined with his insistence on running for Senator as well, probably caused his defeat in the Senate race and in his Presidential ambitions.  His vote for Al/Siege40, without 2nd preferencing anyone, also lead to this very slight loss for the KEmperor/Alcon ticket.

If anything, this election and its results prove to the rest of Atlasia that the center-right alliance in Presidential elections still has a very slight voting edge, but that the voting power of that bloc can be weakened with defections from the right and the left as we saw this weekend.

As we look forward to the “VP Presidency” of True Democrat/Alcon for these next four months, the left of Atlasia appears to be growing in power and number through the use of avatar voting, while the insides of leadership appear to be corroding through corruption and scandal.  The question for the future is how much this corrupting influence will destroy the power of these avatar voters and whether the new Independent Liberal party headed under Peter Bell will try to reinvigorate a long-forgotten voting bloc in Atlasian politics recently, the center-left coalition.

Of course, the center-right alliance of Atlasia appears to be strong now because of the leftist corruption and this alliance will undoubtedly control the Senate even after the 2 special elections this weekend.  The question for this alliance lies within its continual viability in the future and whether defections from the right or left will dilute its power in government in the near term.

Election Analysis
Senate Races
By National Atlasian’s Special Election Correspondent, SamSpade

District 1
In District 1, ColinW managed to maintain a slight lead over his last-minute opponent, Josh, throughout the whole election and finished off winning 12-8.
In this ultimate avatar-voting district, ColinW was helped greatly by low AFDNC turnout and by the key support President-elect True Democrat and former AFDNC leader Boss Tweed.

This correspondent wonders that if center-left candidate Nation might had not to bow out because of health problems, or whether the AFDNC/leftist base had put up a formidable candidate early on, instead of one who eliminated himself in Lawrence Watson, or an inactive candidate like Josh, that ColinW might have faced a real challenge in this swing district.  Certainly soon-to-be-former Senator Defarge would have made the race very interesting in many respects.

Nonetheless, ColinW heads to the Senate next week with approval of nearly half of all the voters in his District and that’s fairly good for a Senator in Atlasia.

District 2
In clearly the blowout of the election week, popular Governor MAS117 cruised to a landslide over troubled incumbent Senator Bono by a margin of 14-3.  In this liberal District, peppered with inactive voters, the easy appeal of MAS117’s moderate liberalism won the day over Senator Bono’s strident libertarianism. Senator Bono was clearly not helped in his re-election bid by a number of statements he had made in the weeks before the election, including his controversial vote against ColinW to be Secretary of Defense.

Senator Bono’s defeat might be a stern warning to center-right Senators Supersoulty and ColinW after the next redistricting.  It appears almost certain that Pennsylvania will be paired up with more liberal states, such as Maryland, West Virginia and Virginia and in the next two and four months, respectively, either of these two Senators could suffer the same fate that Senator Bono did this time around.

District 3

The upset that was often talked about, but never really taken seriously by pundits, actually happened this weekend as Chief of Staff Nike Naso pulled out an unbelievable victory over long-time Senator and former President Nym90 11-11 (winning by 1st preferences 9-8).  Regardless of charges that Mr. Naso was PMing inactive voters constantly for their votes and even calling Demrepdan out of retirement from the forum to come and vote for him, Mr. Naso managed to keep it close all weekend.

The election went back and forth, but in the last 30 minutes with Nym90 leading 11-9, a 2nd preference from MHS2002 and a last-minute vote from 9iron seemed to put the race into a tie and a runoff per the new election laws.

Overnight, Governor Peter Bell of the MidEast deleted his vote for Nym90 and everyone assumed that the totals now read 11-10 for Chief of Staff Mike NasoMike Naso posted his acceptance speech and Nym90 posted his concession remarks, but at roughly 9:00 PM EST that Monday evening, the unthinkable happened.

Acting SoFA King chose to count Peter Bell’s deleted vote, but at the same time ruled the Mr. Naso was the winner because the elections would still be judged under the past tiebreaker rules, which started off with 1st preference votes.

Mr. Naso will clearly need to show the citizens of District 4 that he’s competent for the job in the upcoming months, and convince the voters of his rather liberal District that they made the right choice in giving such a conservative candidate the honor of representing their District for the next four months.

District 4
In District 1, SamSpade scored a surprisingly convincing win over long-term Senator StatesRights/Zebulon Vance by a total of 11-6.  Voters seemed to convincingly reject the more conservative approach of StatesRights/Zebulon Vance to the new center-right approach of Sam SpadeSam Spade even scored the support of some conservative voters in District 4, such as Wiseguy and Josh22, which helped expand his margin from the expected closer contest.

With two new faces in District 4 replacing the old guard, in Senator WMS and Sam Spade, former Senators Harry and former Senator StatesRights/Zebulon Vance will now be facing off to replace the retiring and popular Governor Ernest this weekend in a Gubernatorial Special Election.  That race should certainly be interesting.

District 5
This week’s most contested election, featuring Hughento vs. Secretary of the Treasury King turned out to be much more of a blowout than everyone expected, as Hughento beat King by the count of 14-9.  Most pundits and polls had predicted this race to come down to the wire, but heavy center-left turnout in the Western and Midwestern states turned the election strongly in Hughento’s favor.

Hughento campaigned strongly on his tax reform plan, and as of right now his plan looks to be more likely to gain success as the Senate moves significantly to the center-right as a whole.  King, on the other hand, appears to be moving into his future position as SoFA for the True Democrat administration with ease.
